My friend and I were in Bangkok finishing our Thai Massage course wondering what we should do next? "Cambodia?" he says. We immediately went online to find a hotel and the Golden Banana was one of the first to pop up.

Right from the moment we checked in I knew we had come to the right place. We immediately felt at home and taken care of. And the food in their restaurant! Oh my god! (Have the fish wrapped in bacon and/or the chicken with blue cheese.)

I plan on returning next year with a group.

On a side note, there was a small flood while we were in Siem Reap. No problems at all. From the incredible staff, the drivers, our guides, everything was just stellar.

Hotel staff were friendly and often went out of their way to be helpful. This, despite us not speaking a word of Khmer and English probably not being the first language of most of the staff! :) As well as arranging our tuk-tuk transfer back to the airport, they also got us tickets to a dinner and Apsara dance performance.

The air-conditioning in our room was a tad weak. Nevertheless it was lovely to be able to return to our room and its rain shower after a hot, sticky day touring the temple ruins. Watch out for the steep stairs if you are given a 2nd floor room! We joked that it was practice for climbing up the stairs at the ruins.

My son, his girlfriend and I arrived in Siem Reap for a 5 night visit. We were met with cool drinks, lots of information, and lots smiles. Reception was happy to book anything for us and to let us know where we could find good local foods etc.

We were in room C and were very comfortable, tea & coffee making facilities may have been required for some but the bar fridge was well stocked with cool drinks etc, Wifi worked perfectly. The bathroom was very roomy, which was great as it was shared between 3 of us. Cleaning staff did a wonderful job and food was good but we ate out most nights as we wanted to experienced the local Cambodian cuisine.

After day 2 Siem Reap was flooded, the riverbanks burst and the whole town was knee deep (or higher) in water.

I commend the staff and management for how they handled the situation, their very pleasant personalities and helpfulness, their sense of humour was very remarkable. Management helped staff and families who were in need and it was wonderful to see the relationship between them.

Nothing was too much trouble for anyone, always with a smile, I also wish to thank the wonderful Tuk Tuk drivers who took us out in floods, I truly hope their bikes are ok.

Thank you for a wonderful visit which was full of smiles, laughter, lots of help and fun, despite the flooding. The calmness which with everything was dealt with was an inspiration to me.

I recommend Golden Banana to anyone who likes a relaxed and friendly holiday.

We just had a wonderful 3 night stay at this great place. Everything was just as it should be. A large room, nicely appointed with a very comfortable bed, very nice bathroom, laptop size room safe, minibar fridge, flatscreen TV, great channel choice and very good wifi. My favorite treat regarding the room was the quite private balcony with retan loungers, outdoor stone bathtub and shower. We bought some nice bath salts at one of the boutiques in towns and enjoyed a relaxing outdoor soak every evening after our busy and hot days. One night I got to enjoy a fantastic thunder and lightning storm from the warm comfort of the tub (my partner who is a bit shy of lightning passed up the bath that evening).

The staff was very friendly and engaging giving us an additional opportunity to learn some more about their lives in Cambodia. The barman could make nice cocktails and the food, which we enjoyed a couple of times since we just didn't want to leave the place, was also very good (the Cambodian dishes and the french fries also!). With a nice pool and relax beds around the pool area our stay was complete.

The management was also very nice and helpful and from what I heard from the staff, they care about their staff and their development. Always nice to see. And since the city was experiencing some flooding when we were there, the manager was totally prepared to give us any assistance necessary if the water was causing movement problems on the morning we had to go to the airport (in the end was not needed). But we sure felt good the night before that he was so involved and prepared to do whatever (thanks Tommy!). I do have one note that I don't want to leave out for those who may stay here in the near future partially based on my review. In September, 2011, when we stayed, they were doing some construction work on expansion. This causes some minor unavoidable noise but for 99% it wasn't anything that really disturbed us. The hotel is doing their best to minimize the disturbance by planning the work as much as possible at times when it will be least disturbing and trying to get it mostly done before the high season starts and the occupancy rates go up. And they are doing their best to put people in rooms that are further away from the work. And since the work is being done during the day when one is mostly off touring, it's really not much of an issue. And this fact did not diminish at all the feeling we left with - this is a great place that has all their ducks in a row!

Room Tip: I really think all the rooms are equally wonderful so you don't have to be too concerned about w...

We started traveling from Central America just to go see Angkor Wat. We stayed for 6 days and we had had a blast. Senn our Tuk tuk driver picked us up from the airport and was well presented. We got to the hotel where we were greeted with ice cold drink .
The rooms were well decorated with orchids all over- Great job house keeping.
After visiting the sites we came back and relaxed in the pool with a ice cold drink ... we would recommend this place anytime . I work in the hospitality business so I know the effort that they take . Great Job keep it up.
