“Sonalong Boutique Hotel, Siem Reap”
Reviewed January 22, 2013

My husband and I together with friends stay at Sonalong Village regularly. We have just returned from a three week visit. Sonalong is an oasis of peace in a very busy town. The rooms are great with the added advantage of an outside verandah complete with fan. We started as we usually do by going and eating in Eat Street and one or two of the other recommended restaurants around the Wat Bo area. The food menu when you first look at it seems limited, we were able to choose different dishes on a regular basis and foung that the quality of the food was axcellent and that it was lovely to finish the day with a very good meel in peaceful surroundings. Well done Chhay Hak , you have created a little gem. The feeling he has created is of an oasis in a crowded city. Birds are prolific, including a resident owl and for those who are interested in the trees, each one has been labelled. These include banana, palms, mangoes ,papaya as well as some of the tropical trees familiar to Australians. An added incentive is the ten minute walk to the Old Markets and an even shorter one to the Night Markets We were pleased to see that the shower had been updated since last year. The staff as usual are helpful and friendly, many anxious to practice their English. We are already checking our dates for next year as Sonalong is often fully booked

Spent five delightful days staying at Sonalong Village. Really appreciated the friendly and attentive service from Mr Hak and all his staff. The pool and garden setting were welcome after a hot days touring. Good food and quiet but convenient location. As long as you don't mind a firm bed, it is a top place to stay. Would definitely go back again.

Really beautiful garden and pool area and nice big rooms. Its a little offside, therefore really quiet - butjust 10 minutes to walk to the Pubstreet and Night Market and there are Tuktuks available in front of the Hotel at any time. Highly recommended if you like it quiet and don't mind a short walk or Tuktuk ride.

I just loved this little green paradise amidst normal buildings in the street. If you love the authentic style but also love real comfort, these rooms are perfect. The rooms are spacious, as well as the bathroom. And for smokers the big porch with chairs is great. There are only 22 rooms, so it is always peaceful and quiet at the swimming pool. They have free towels at the pool and plenty of relaxing beds in the shade. You can order food at the pool, which is very cheap and delicious! The village is not far from the resort. You could walk there, but a tuk tuk costs almost nothing, so why risk a big sweat? The village has interesting restaurants, shops and massage shops.

Room Tip: If you have trouble walking the stairs, you can ask for a room on the ground floor, because you have...

Our party of five just spent three nights at this lovely little hotel. The grounds are gorgeous, and we loved our time in the pool. The rooms are modest, but comfortable. What really made this place shine was the fabulous staff. Mr. Hak was great. He arranged a great tour for our family with a private van and guide. One of our party ended up ill and the staff went above and beyond to make sure he was comfortable. We really appreciated their kind attention. The food was good and the hotel is very close to some good restaurants if you want something different. The Khmer dance show they pointed us to was a great taste of artistic culture. Thank you for a lovely stay!

The rooms are spacious, clean, comfortable (if you like hard bed) and in a good location - out of the centre enough to be quiet but a 10 min walk to all the action. The pool is great with lots of sun lounges but they don't serve cocktails which was a big disappointment. The complimentary breakfast is basic and although they say 'freshly squeezed juice' my guess is that it's out of a carton or squeezed hours before serving. The hotel is set on beautiful, lush grounds with lots of trees and fauna. If back in SR, we would stay elsewhere purely due to the lack of beverage options.

Thank you very much for your valued time to wrote a review about our resort, we are absolutely sorry that at the moment we do not serve cocktail as you see the bar is finish we try to find the person who know how to make the cocktail well.
One more thing that we are sorry for you, our orange or pine apple juice, 100 % are fresh never use from the carton, hopefully will see you next time when we have the cocktail serving shortly.

Home away from home, only better!

We stayed here four years ago, and have been waiting for an opportunity to return ever since. We were not disappointed! What was then a tranquil haven not far off the beaten track has become even better with time. The garden has grown up, so you feel totally private and indulged in your own little corner of this paradise, especially if you get an upstairs room. The showers have been upgraded, and they were really the only thing that needed changing. The beds are firm, but that's a positive for me. Siem Reap has gone crazy over the last four years, and for those of us who are not here to be seen in Pub Street and the over-the-top night markets or battle the constant harassment from would-be masseurs, this place means you can relax and enjoy your time here. It's fun to take the five minute walk into the centre when you feel like it, but lovely to know you can escape as well. You can eat at the hotel if you're feeling too lazy to move far after a day at the temples or working with the locals, as so many visitors to this area are. Some people might want a more varied menu, but everything we ate was excellent, and that matters more to me. Clean, fresh, flavoursome. The pool is divine, and the staff are outstanding. Attentive without ever overdoing it, they learn your name from the moment you arrive and keep a very close, personal but discreet eye out for your well being. This is five star luxury without the price tag and without the pomp and posturing that turns me away from the real five star set. Mr Hak has created something very special here and I hope he never strays from his original vision.

Room Tip: Agree with a previous reviewer's advice to request an upstairs room, but they are all good.
