“Home away from home, only better!”
Reviewed December 23, 2012

Home away from home, only better!

We stayed here four years ago, and have been waiting for an opportunity to return ever since. We were not disappointed! What was then a tranquil haven not far off the beaten track has become even better with time. The garden has grown up, so you feel totally private and indulged in your own little corner of this paradise, especially if you get an upstairs room. The showers have been upgraded, and they were really the only thing that needed changing. The beds are firm, but that's a positive for me. Siem Reap has gone crazy over the last four years, and for those of us who are not here to be seen in Pub Street and the over-the-top night markets or battle the constant harassment from would-be masseurs, this place means you can relax and enjoy your time here. It's fun to take the five minute walk into the centre when you feel like it, but lovely to know you can escape as well. You can eat at the hotel if you're feeling too lazy to move far after a day at the temples or working with the locals, as so many visitors to this area are. Some people might want a more varied menu, but everything we ate was excellent, and that matters more to me. Clean, fresh, flavoursome. The pool is divine, and the staff are outstanding. Attentive without ever overdoing it, they learn your name from the moment you arrive and keep a very close, personal but discreet eye out for your well being. This is five star luxury without the price tag and without the pomp and posturing that turns me away from the real five star set. Mr Hak has created something very special here and I hope he never strays from his original vision.

Room Tip: Agree with a previous reviewer's advice to request an upstairs room, but they are all good.

The sonalong was a fantastic hotel. We greatly enjoyed our stay. The manager was around all the time and always attentive and helpful. The grounds are beautiful with trees and flowers and well-kept. The food is good and, like all the food in Cambodia, cheap (at least by US standards). The pool (salt water) was a welcome relief from the heat each afternoon. The hotel arranged for tuk tuks/drivers and guides as we needed them, but never asked us to spend anything we didn't want. The only small complaint we had was that it would have been nice to have slightly hotter water-- it was warm every day, but definitely not hot. Overall though, a terrific hotel. Would definitely recommend.

Recently myself and my boy friend have stayed 3 nights at Sonalong Boutique Village for half Maraton at Angkor Wat, this place is recommended by my friend, it is absolutely quiet place and the pool is beautiful after coming from the hot.

The room up stair is more private then down stair, I and my boy sited out side at the balcony with 2 comfortable armchairs looking to the beautiful garden surrounding and it is quite easy we can walk to the pub street where you can find every things. The breakfast is good, because every things are fresh ( eg..... orange and pine apple juice ), the friendly Khmer manager ( Mr HAK ) is knowledgeable person who can tell you all the information what you may need, and the staffs also very friendly.

I definitely will stay at this hotel again if I come to Siem Reap for my next holiday.

Room Tip: Up stair is more view then down stair, the long you do not mind to walk a few steps.

Currently staying here for 6 nights after 2 weeks in remote Cambodian provinces of Mondulkiri and Ratanakiri with local bus and guesthouse fatigue. I cannot speak highly enough of Sonalong. From the moment we arrived we have been treated with utmost courtesy and friendliness, some staff even greeting us by first names. This place understands the meaning of the word hospitality. The rooms are immaculate, not overdone and with nice Khmer touches. The rain shower has been bliss after dodgy guesthouse showers, and it's warm. The grounds are beautiful and maintained constantly, and the salt water pool is just heaven in the heat. Its an easy walk to the main shopping areas of Siem Reap also, but far enough to avoid all the noise. Value for money wise, this is just an excellent choice. We are paying $55 for three people, including breakfast, so is fantastic even if you're on a bit of a budget but just need to splurge a bit after roughing it. Will definitely stay here again and highly recommend Sonalong Village Boutique hotel.

I had 6 nights here with two other friends and it was great. Good location, about a 10 min walk from Pub street and far enough away so that it was quiet. The rooms were spacious, very clean and had everything that you would need. The gardens were immaculate and had staff tidying them constantly, the pool and surrounding area were fantastic and well laid out, a great place to relax once you were all watted out. Mr Ha and his staff were extremely helpful and gave us lots of good advice. The food was tip top and all in all we had a fantastic stay and I can easily recommend the Sonalong. should I return I would quite happily stay here
Thanks for a great stay.

The whole Angkor experience has just been amazing. The tour was very complete and the guide explained really well. Mr.Hak was very friendly,he gave us a warm welcome on arrival and explained all the details very well. The staff there were very friendly and helped us with all our request. The rooms are very comfortable and clean. Mr.Hak also helped us with our outing to the town and gave us a few tips. I am really looking forward to another trip to Siem Reap in the future and also I'll be recommending this place to all travelers who want to enjoy the Angkor experience.
