“Great choice”
Reviewed March 18, 2014 via mobile

Friendly staff, decent rooms and a great garden area for socialising. Coldest tap beer we had in Cambodia and very cheap. Food was decent, although kitchen was a bit disorganised and slow. Loved the place and would stay again!

Hi there. Thank you for taking the time to do a very nice review.

I also appreciate the very cold and cheap beer. probably too much sometimes :)

I have had a word with the kitchen about trying to organize better. This is our first season with a restaurant that does anything other than breakfast so while we could do better overall we are reasonably pleased.

Anyway comments have been passed on. So enjoy the rest of your holiday and hopefully we will see you again sometime.

Regards

Stayed here 4 days in February. Quiet, very clean, helpful staff. Rooms are fine, tastefully simple. Centrally located. We would definitely return here.
There are some sweet dogs and crocodiles!
What more can I say!

Stayed here 2 weeks ago for 8 nights and the staff were great. My girlfriend had a medical problem and Nicole and Chankia (not sure on spelling) were so helpful. All the staff are friendly, it is in a quiet road with some other guest houses and about a 15 min walk from the centre. Thank you to everyone who helped us including arranging trips. Finally Ton the tuk tuk driver did a great job and also went out of his way (excuse the pun) to help us.
So glad we did not stay on the noisy pub street!

Hi

Thank you for your review which I have passed on to the staff. They send you their best wishes and hope that your girlfriend is ok now.

Personally I agree with your view on pub street. It is good to be based somewhere quiet with the choice of a trip out to a busy area if you want.

All the best

Hi

Thank you for the review.

I appreciate your patience with the electricity issues. At this time of the year we get problems with the main supply going off once in a while. When it comes back on you can get surges which put the local fittings under pressure and occasionally something trips. I think you do exactly the right thing by not letting it bother you. It is part of life in this great country.

Thank you for coming and we hope to see you again

Regards

The dorm was clean, with large and comfortable beds. The only bad thing about my stay there was that the dorm's door and the metal beds would make an awful lot of noise when moving. Else, very friendly and helpful staff! :)

Hi

Thank you for review.

I have had a chat with housekeeping about the beds. The agreed solution seems to be to get rubber pads to put below the bed legs. Thank you for pointing that out.

Enjoy the rest of your travels

Not really one to write a review ,however i feel that the European Guesthouse thoroughly deserves one! Whilst visiting Siem Reap for the first time, i chose to stay in the European Guesthouse, purely through recommendations from fellow travelers i had spoken to previous to going to Cambodia.....And I am so glad i did!!!

All the staff are very friendly and more than happy to help in anything i asked. My private AC dorm was spotless, also cleaners came in everyday with mosquito spray which was great! The European Guesthouse has a great outdoor garden space, lots of comfy furniture which i very much enjoyed after my busy day at the temples.

As for location....ideal!! Close enough walk to pub street (main strip for bars and restaurants) but not so you would get interrupted by the noise levels. The Eurpoean Guesthouse is also close to the temples which i highly recommend anyone to visit - they're amazing! European Tuk Tuk drivers are more than willing to take you here if you just ask at the bar, a member of staff will assist you in this.

Overall, a fantastic Guesthouse which i would highly recommend to anybody.

I wonder what happened with this place as it is good advised on TA. The toilets are NOT clean, used condom is on the shower for 2 days, the selfmade beach is being used by dogs and cats as a toilet, it really stinks.
Besides this it's a good guesthouse. Beds are comfortable, nice lounge to meet people, owner is English speaker.

Hi

Thank you for your review.

In summary can I suggest respectfully that if you have a problem or an issue in any guesthouse you simply raise it with the management in the first instance and don't let it spoil your holiday? We are a laid back guesthouse and we are very happy to do anything that guests within reason want us to do. This also would help to improve standards in guest houses as we would be aware of issues and not trying to figure out from Trip Advisor where we can do better. By all means also have your say on Trip Advisor. That's what it is for.

In detail. I don't know what accommodation you were in but I think you were probably in the dorms and you are probably talking about the showers and toilets in the dorm block since if it was your own room you would have not had a condom problem I presume. (It would help with Trip Advisor if guests actually had to give booking references so that we had more details.) These are mixed dorms and I can understand that occasionally guests might hook up and look for somewhere private. It is disappointing to hear that someone might have left a condom behind in the shower. However I do not believe that it is possible for a condom to stay in a well-used shower for two days without the staff seeing it or a responsible guest reporting it. These showers and toilets are used all the time and we have a constant service to keep them clean. The block itself is new and all the facilities are new. I am confident in this area that we are doing the best we can. But I always share these reviews with the staff and I will ask them to be aware.

The comments about the dog and cat. Well I know for a fact that Andy the dog goes to waste ground at the end of the street every morning regular as clockwork. To be honest I have seen Andy peeing in the fishpond a couple of times but dogs do that. However seriously there is a reason why most people here have dogs and cats. The dog barks the place down at night if we have any unwelcome visitors and both the dog and the cat are very effective at keeping vermin out. You would also find that if you didn't have your own dog and cat you would have a huge problem with strays. Anyway most people like the dog and cat as they are very friendly and they are staying.

When you say the place stinks I suspect you might be talking about the crocodile farm behind the street we are on. Whenever they feed the crocodiles and clean the pools maybe every couple of months there is a smell that lasts for a day or so that we get if the wind is in our direction. My guesthouse itself does not stink.

Anyway I say this to some guests. Cambodia is a third world country with poor infrastructure. The Cambodian people do amazingly well to keep standards up in the face of impossible odds with power cuts, poor roads, water shortages, floods and droughts. But it is still a third world country so don’t sweat the small stuff here or you won’t enjoy the big important stuff.

Regards
