“Fantastic location and lovely room, pricing a litte high”
Reviewed February 19, 2013

We stayed here in peak season and generally loved our stay. Fantastic location right in the center, very comfortable and quiet room (the doors are padded against external noise!), and charming helpful staff. Great restaurant recommendations too!
We just had a couple of issues that made us question the price of our room (the Saffron room), relative to local prices.
-The water was an issue, generally being very hot or occasionally only cold. The hotel is working hard to rectify this in a limited water supply environment but in the meanwhile you can't expect every shower to be at the desired temperature.
-We pre-arranged a car and english speaking guide for our first day. Big mistake! Car is unnecessarily expensive and our guide spoke terrible english. We reported this to the owner so I expect he has been struck off but we still paid for him and are disappointed the hotel couldn't have ensured a guide who really does speak English given their local knowledge and connections. Recommend simply hiring a tuk tuk as much cheaper and the drivers English is usually very good! Otherwise ensure the hotel only hires a guide with excellent English.
Overall we really liked this place. Just a couple of things to improve and it will be truly 5* and correctly priced!

Room Tip: Saffron room is lovely, comfortable, cool and quiet. Also has a balcony over street!

We appreciate the review and the notation that we are working to correct the shortcomings this guest experienced. The water supply in the rapidly developing town of Siem Reap has been an ongoing issue that we, and every other local business, has to battle. A year ago we added extra storage tanks which seem to work for a while but during this crush of high season and a city full during the Chinese New Year holiday it was especially frustrating. Of course that is not satisfactory to us or our guests so we found another solution to add more water tank storage. Since this guest's visit and for the past week everything seems to be working without any issues at all. So, fingers crossed, we have found the right solution for the long term. After all, seven water tanks should be enough I trust!

As for the guide, we pride ourselves on having an excellent group of guides that we can call upon for our guests. In this case, as the city was full and our regular guides already booked we called upon someone new. I was extremely disappointed to hear that this guide's English was so poor. After all, they are licensed tour guides that have to study and pass an exam in order to work for temple tours. Needless to say, he is permanently crossed off our list and we will work with our guests in advance for their tour needs in peak season (year round our regular guides are nearly always available for us). After all, that is what we

We are glad to have the feedback as we are always trying to be the best hotel, in the best location in Siem Reap.

I do love this place, and have stayed twice.
The location is by far the best in Siem Reap, right amongst the restaurants, shops and bars, so you never want for anything.
The rooms are spacious and groovy, with a wonderful balcony. The whole place has a sleek, cool groove, but a friendly, home-style service. Staff are lovely and helpful and speak excellent English.
It offers terrific value for money. You will love it here, I promise.

The personal service was A1; the apt was quite nice. The only fault, which might not be a problems for many guests, was the Internet. It was sketchy in the bedroom, but usually fairly reliable in the living room. The apt was nicely furnished; this is a full apt, although there were no cooking facilities, it did have a small refrigerator. The LR has a large flat screen TV, but there is no TV in the bedroom. What I like about the place is this: There are only 4 apartments. The staff also works the gallery and restaurant, which caters to diners -- not just hotel guests. So, being a guest here, each of the staff know who you are, and each try to assist. While the restaurant is quite nice, the staff also directed us to two other excellent restaurants, and arranged tuk tuks for us. I would definitely stay here again, and I would definitely recommend Hotel Be to my friends. I'm not really sure why it's classified as a B&B here, but I guess because of the small size. But, as far as personal service and helpfulness, this might be the best place we have stayed in our travels. Another thing: The location could not be more central. The old town area is just outside your door.

Room Tip: No swimming pool here, which would have been nice in the humidity. But, I would not have traded a s...

We appreciate your nice review and very glad you enjoyed our personal service, location and rooms.

Regarding the internet service in the rooms, we have added additional equipment to make sure the signal covers as much as the room as possible but like anywhere going through walls, doors etc. can be an issue. Since making these changes it seems to have been improved and we are grateful for that because we know it is nice to be able to offer free wifi for our guests.

It would be impossible to build a pool in our location and we know it is something that our guests would like to have so our solution is to offer complimentary access to the pool at a nearby hotel and we are happy to provide this extra service.

As you can see from our name, we do not classify ourselves as a B&B, that is something that Trip Advisor decided that since we only had three rooms we did not qualify to be listed in the hotel category. It does not change the fact that we have a fantastic location, comfortable and artistically designed rooms and the personal service that you will find hard to find anywhere else.

What a great introduction to friendly Cambodia. We stayed 4 nights and were completely charmed by the friendly and informative staff. We were picked up at the airport and so getting to the hotel and settling in were one smooth and relatively quick progress enabling the relaxing time to commence. A tour guide and driver were organised for us for two days, and what an amazing and informative way to see the ancient ruins of Ankor Wat, some of the less visited temples and the Landmine Museum. Staff had many good recommendations for dinner and lunch, in and around the town and for all cost ranges.
We stayed in the saffron room and found it very comfortable and relaxing. It was lovely to be able to look from the balcony and watch the world go by.
Could easily have stayed longer and would not hesitate to recommend staying here to anyone interested.

The concept of a quaint boutique hotel with only 3 rooms, each individually themed, combined with an art gallery, restaurant, this is truly an oasis in the hustle and bustle of the touristy Old Market & Pub Street.

Stayed in the Sepia Room and loved the design, the bathroom though no tub, was a lovely rain shower with a seating area that you can scrub down the day's grime from temple visits.

It is also literally two steps from Pub Street & Old Market, you turn the corner that's where the town's happenings are. I only realised it was a gay friendly hotel upon check in (of course! why else would the hotel be so designer chic top to toe!) and the only downside is there is no lifts, so you would have to take your luggage up the stairs.

Apart from that it was a lovely stay, breakfast in the alleyway, convenience of food, shopping and lots of massages (highly recommend Bodia Spa 4 handed massage).

We spent 4 nights at the Hotel Be and had a great experience. From the moment they met us at the airport, the staff was friendly and attentive -- just within the ride to the hotel they helped us plan our tour schedule, recommended a delicious restaurant, and changed another restaurant reservation for us!

The hotel’s location is excellent; it shares a narrow passage behind Pub Street with restaurants, bars, and a couple cute shops. We were able to easily walk to markets, shops, and tasty places to eat -- and for those locations that were farther afield the staff would always make sure that we were taken care of with a Tuk Tuk who knew where to go. Our room (Saffron) was spacious and very nicely decorated. It’s true that the Saffron room’s balcony overlooks the bars and restaurants below -- I know some reviewers have said this is noisy, but as we are city people and the curtains are thick so it didn't bother us, even on a Saturday night. It was also lovely to open the curtains and sit outside in the morning.

The hotel staff arranged a tour guide for us - Sim - who we found to be quite knowledgeable. He clearly had a lot of experience and seemed to enjoy taking crowd-avoiding routes through the temples and suggesting great angles for photos.

All in all we really appreciated the personal touch one gets from staying in a smaller hotel and had a fantastic experience at the Hotel Be.

We were booked for 5 nights and were the only guests in the hotel. We left after 2. I am a big fan of small boutique hotels that try something different. The idea of combining a hotel space with an art gallery is great and was part of the reason we chose to stay there. That, their very central location and the fact that they are gay friendly. In practice, we were disappointed. So disappointed that we left early. Service was patchy. The staff were lovely, but not necessarily very efficient. When we arrived the owner of the hotel was sitting at the bar opposite the hotel, presumably having a drink with friends. Even though it was clear that we had just arrived, he made no effort to get up and come and say hello and we didn't see him again for the rest of our stay. If I were the owner of an establishment, I would go out of my way to welcome my guests and make sure they have whatever they need. The room was OK (we stayed in the Sepia Room). It was clean and spacious and the photographs by John McDermott were superb. There is no bath and the shower was poor. The aircon was incredibly noisy - like one was sleeping next to a plane engine. Breakfast - which was served in our room - was dismal. The orange juice was delicious, but not so much the coffee, dry muesli, bruised fruit and artificially sweetened yoghurt. On the second morning we went to the Blue Pumpkin for breakfast, which was much better. Before breakfast was served in the morning we tried to call reception to ask them to bring some coffee up. It was early, but we had been told that reception was manned from 6.30 am. We called repeatedly, but there was no answer. Eventually we had to physically go downstairs. There was nobody there. When the same thing happened on the second morning, we decided to switch hotels. It wasn’t that the space itself was bad, but rather that we felt like they didn’t care whether or not we were there. I expected a lot more from a hotel of this description.

This review, and the one from 16 June are from the same guest stay, one from the husband and one from wife. I am not sure ifTrip Advisor allows multiple reviews for the same stay but will let them sort this out. As with some reviewers, they feel the need to be heard and sometimes more so than the many other guests that have an enjoyable stay and do not feel compelled to write a review. This would seem to be the case here with two reviews saying the same thing.

To be sure, we as a hotel had shortcomings in some areas during this guest's stay that have already been addressed with the staff when it happened, prior to receiving any reviews. Due to our intimate size we know exactly when we have satisfied guests, as the vast majority are, and when we have missed the mark. That other guests have not found the same shortcomings is somewhat heartening but not at all acceptable from our side as we strive to make every guest stay the best it can possible be.

As the owner, I am disappointed that the guest thought that I somehow neglected them upon arrival. As it turned out they were scheduled to arrive in the afternoon but missed their flight and arrived later in the evening. At that time I was with other customers and having dinner and assumed incorrectly that I would see them when they came down after check-in or during their planned five day stay. As that did not happen I am very disappointed. The majority of the guests that I do have the pleasure of meeting I will tell them that that staff are there to take care of them and I sincerely hope they have the best possible service as a result. We as a team fell short in this case but as a result of understanding this we are better for it, as we can make the necessary adjustments to better serve future guests.
