As this was my second time traveling to Siem Reap, I already knew where to stay. Of course I returned to Babel Guesthouse - it has become my home away from home.
Spacious, clean and comfy rooms with AC at affordable prices; delicious food in the restaurant (especially the phad thai - you should try it!); relaxing outside area with a lovely garden; and, last but not least, a really nice and welcoming local staff, are all elements that makes the stay here perfect. The most important is obviously the staff; they are all so friendly, always smiling and asking how you are. If you need anything, they are always there for you. And if there is something they cannot fix themselves, they make sure someone else takes care of it.

If you want your stay in Siem Reap to be as good as possible, I really recommend you stay at Babel Guesthouse. It truly makes your visit to the city complete :)

PS: While you are there, get to know the Norwegian owners, Katrine, Simen and Hilde Marie! They are three of the most amazing, inspiring and talented people I have ever met. (Love you!)

Room Tip: Each room is decorated with one special artist or band. Ask for your favorite! For example: Manu Cha...

I came here on a volunteering trip and it was awesome! It was really clean, food was great and staff were very friendly. The only cons I found were that it was a bit far from the old market and sometimes I could smell the septic tank when I was sitting outside. Apart from that, I really cannot fault this place :) The owner makes excellent dream catchers as well!

I stumbled upon this guesthouse after paying far too much at another guesthouse/hostel in town. The rooms are reasonably priced, clean and smartly decorated. There were some issues with keeping the electricity on in our room but nothing that was too annoying. As mentioned in other reviews, the road to the guesthouse is treacherous when it rains. Quite muddy and bumpy but easily solved by jumping aboard a tuk tuk (always available outside main gate). The staff were all very accommodating and spoke English quite well. The food and main lounge area were a plus. I would have preferred a bit more for the free breakfast but it was FREE so I can't complain too much. Overall, the best accommodation for the price.

We stumbled across this guesthouse luckily as we intended to stay in the dive opposite but upgraded in every way by choosing Babel!
The staff make this place, within 12 hours they all knew my name and weren't just trying to sell you tours.
Everything is hassle free, tuk tuks are set prices which are reasonable so no need to worry. A light breakfast is included. The rooms are spotless and have cool themes and cool features. There is a pool to use next door which is perfect after a long day at the temples - only $3.
It's about 15 min walk from the centre or $2 tuk tuk so no real issues.
Loved the place will recommend to everyone!

The food we ordered only tasted like "maggi" (the flavour enhancer). Not very Cambodian :-)

Twice, I caught the staff being sneaky about money, once asking for a price, once for giving change back!

The road to get there is very muddy when it rains.
Overall design is very nice though.

Hello, and thanks for your feedback. We appreciate you taking time to review our guesthouse even though your stay didn't live up to your expectations. We recently got a new chef working part time next to his job at a five star hotel in town. Together we have made a new menu consisting of local specialties and western favorites. He has brought exciting new flavors to our restaurant and we can assure you that we only use top quality produce. We have received great feedback on our new menu so we are sorry to hear it didn't please you. We will take your comment to the kitchen and work even harder to maintain the high standard that we seek.

We are surprised to hear your complaint about the service. We always receive excellent comments on the service performance of our staff and this is something we take great proud in. But again this will challenge us to work even harder.

About the road in the rainy season: Not much to do about, yes it gets muddy from time to time. But traveling around Cambodia you will come to understand that our little dead end street is not of high priority in the governments infrastructure budget. Not in a long time anyways :)

Hope you still will consider us for your next visit to Siem Reap so we can get a chance to turn your opinion around. Welcome back!

What a great place to stay in Siem Reap! These guys are big on respnsible tourism (Norwegian owners are very educated on the topic, they have a fund to provide education for their employees, they support a local orphanage etc etc - when you get to Cambodia, you'll see how important it is to contribute!) but they also have big, clean rooms, friendly staff, a shady garden/patio and a fantastic atmosphere. Traveling alone, this was a great place to meet people, and I could easily hang out all evening by the bar. And the bar/restaurant has good, cheap food too! It's a 15 minute walk to Siem Reap center, but it's on a quiet side street which means you get a good night's sleep before getting up early to see the temples. I was concerned about other reviews on Tripadvisor complaining about noise, but this was absolutely not the case. The bar is very chilled and doesnt play loud music, and music seemed to stop around 11. At USD 20, you get hotel quality, and Babel has a mixed crowd of both young and older - again contributing to the great atmosphere. I felt very safe here and well taken care of!
Babel also has their own tuk tuk drivers, and I used one of them for various tours every day I was there (I stayed 5 nights). I could easily have stayed longer, and hope to come back sometime in the future!

Thank you so much for this wonderful review! This gives us a lot of motivation to continue with the work we do! Nice to see that it worked, the meeting we had with the students after reading the former reviews about noice. The students are now paying a lot of attention to other guests, and the music in the bar is turned down in reasonable time. We also hope you will come back again in the future. Welcome anytime :)

My family only stayed here for a few nights in August, but they were really amazing. We had booked through their website, but it bugged out somewhere along the line and our booking wasn't confirmed. They could have just turned us away, but they put us up at the guest house nextdoor, which was more expensive, and paid the difference for us. They also let us use one of their tuk-tuks for our temple visits. When we did eventually move there for our last few nights, our room was just as lovely as the one we'd been staying in nextdoor, and the service was brilliant. The staff there are really friendly, lovely bunch of people, and there's a lovely little cat that you'll sometimes find sleeping outside. Really made our stay there feel cosy and comfortable, thank you!

Thank you so much for your review. We were at the moment you were booking changing our webpage, and we had some problems with the booking system. We are still working on it, but finally now the booking system on our webpage is working again. Of course we are paying the difference for you to stay with our neighbours, the mistake was on us. We are very glad you liked our room as much as you liked the one next door! Thanx! And thank you for kind words about the staff and the service. This is our biggest pride :) And we are happy you also liked our cat, Bella :)
