“Amazing space with great potential”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 13, 2011

Apparently this place has fallen on some hard luck. The crocodiles have been sold, the Aspara dancer performed for my party of three, and the kind and friendly waitstaff out-numbered the customers. It was absolutely worth it for a beer. The decor and slight fear of plummeting through the worn floorboards contribute to the atmosphere, and we left with great photos. It is really a cool space!

“Empty except for the mosquitoes”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 10, 2011

We had high hopes but were left disappointed, the mosquitoes were everywhere (unlike the rest of Siem Reap) and the waiter insisted on showing us a live crocodile in a filthy tiny pit. Avoid!

“Bill inflated by 50%!!!!!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 29, 2010

I went yesterday for dinner with my family. BIll came with no price per itemand just a grand total of $42. It seemed high so I asked for the menu to compare the prices of each item ordered. The real total came to $27.50!!!!! I tried to get answer on the mistake but obviously they were very embarassed by the intentional/deliberate scam they were trying to get away with. A few other things if this does not turn you off - the place is full of mousquitos probably due to the stagnant water in the crododile pit, the place is absolutely dirty and do not believe anything even the plates are washed well. They do not accept credit cards even though they clearly advertise they do. THIS PLACE IS A SCAM - STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“Empty place!!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 27, 2010

This restaurant is highly recommended by Lonely planet (author's choice some more...).
When we reach there at 7:30pm, the place is so quite and no customer at all, I thought I went to the wrong place! The staff don't really understand English well, and the environment a bit scary made me feel uncomfortable... after 2 mins stay in the restaurant, I bring my family run away...

“Could Be A Big Attraction If Cleaned Up & Promoted”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 23, 2010

The quirky signs out front are what first draw your attention to Dead Fish Tower - once you walk inside first impressions are "what is this place?" Perhaps an old warehouse which has been converted into the most haphazardly designed establishment you could possibly imagine, but I guess that's part of its' charm and allure. In its' heyday I am sure it was well frequented but they certainly need to do some upgrading, especially safety & lighting wise.

The restaurant comprises various floor levels with your choice of dining whilst seated on floor cushions, at roughly hewn log bars or standard tables and chairs. Safety rails for steps leading to various dining levels do not appear to be high on the agenda & extreme care needs to be taken. The lighting is not quite adequate, but if dark secluded nooks and crannies are what you're looking for, then this certainly fits the bill! There are plenty of pieces of unusual decor to spark the imagination & keep you wondering where on earth the ideas sprang from.

The food was prepared in the basement level kitchen and delivered to the dining area using the novel concept of rope pulley and platform. No rave reviews on presentation or taste - given the quirky atmosphere of this place, we expected something a little more out of the ordinary. Beverages were expensive in comparison to most other eateries we had been to, so contemplating a bottle of wine was out of the question! (Perhaps that's why their unique wine cellars were full and very dusty?!)

The staff were pleasant & courteous although the constant "hovering" was somewhat annoying. The nightly apsara dancing was disappointing - perhaps this may have been due to the lack of patrons and atmosphere. The most intriguing aspect were the toilets - you had to walk gingerly past enclosures set a floor below which contained a crocodile in each - one dreads to think what would happen if you tripped & fell in!

For curiosity value, make this a place to visit but if you're looking for a night out and a few drinks, steer clear - there are just too many safety issues here. With more thought and planning, this place really could be a winner but at the moment, it needs a heck of a lot more work.
