“Tapas night.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2012

They have a tapas night on Wednesdays starting at 6 p.m. You can order 20 different tapas and drinks for $1 an item. Excellent food and excellent service. The staff have nice friendly attitudes and are very prompt in fulfilling your requests.

What I love most about this hotel is that all of the staff working here is a stakeholder. Yes, you read that right. No wonder all of them were always smiling and very helpful. A certificate stating that all employees are co-owners are proudly displayed by the lift. So if you're looking for a hotel that treats its employees well this is the one.

That said the hotel is nice and the rooms are clean. Be warned though that the lift in this hotel (and probably in all hotels in Cambodia) stop at odd-numbered floors (in adherence to Buddhism belief that odd numbers bring luck). We were given rooms on the 4th floor so my friends and I had to carry our suitcases up one floor.

My room, designed into an attic room, had a nice little balcony that is perfect for watching the neighbouring buildings. There is a bar on the 4th floor that also offers a nice view of the city.

Breakfast can become dreary so expect to eat the same food over and over. They do try to vary but the selection isn't much. Watch out for the 'freshly' cut fruits, they don't look fresh at all. The good thing is they have a bundle of fruits on display so you can choose whatever you like and they will cut it for you.

A spa treatment is offered although we didn't get to try and there is a nice Jacuzzi up the 4th floor of the hotel. Wi-fi is free and has a good connection. There is also a computer (I only saw one!) at the lobby for guests' use any time.

Location wise it is accessible and you can easily find tuc-tucs the moment you step out of the hotel. It is only a few minutes ride to the Old Market and the Pub Street, offering a plethora of bars and restaurants. The hotel is also a few minutes away from the Central Market and the Night Market which are both perfect for shopping. Haggling skills would definitely come handy. (Automatically ask for half the price of what is being quoted.)

A combination of good location, cozy rooms, friendly staff, clean hotel and where employees are treated well make Soria Moria the perfect hotel to stay in for any conscientious traveler. Staying here is a great opportunity for any guest to enjoy Cambodia while giving back to the community.

Room Tip: Rooms on the top floor offer a good view.

I don't think my stay could have been better. The employees bend over backwards to make sure their guests are happy. Some highlights:
-A voucher for a free cocktail on the rooftop bar
-Massages on the top floor (or in your room)... super affordable
-A big bathtub! (Not always easy to find in SE Asia)
-Scrumptious breakfast buffet (you must try the limeade)
-A lobby with beautiful crafts for sale to support local charities
-A location that is safe and quiet, off the main drag, but super quick and simple to get to all of the action
-A/C that works efficiently
-clean, clean, crazy clean

Just book it. :)

There is nothing wrong with this hotel, and in many other cities I would be totally happy to stay in a place like this. Friendly staff, nice rooms, rooftop bar with $1 beers, free wifi, decent location. The problem is that I have been to Siem Reap many times and I have come to set very high expectations. The hotel/B&B market, especially in the boutique segment, is competitive and generally provides extremely good value for money. This is why some other reviewers here (one-time visitors?) might have been blown away by what you get for your buck at this hotel, but know that in Siem Reap there are at least a handful of places like this, and they just provide a little more for the same budget.

What I think was lacking: breakfast was disappointing, and generally the place lacks a bit of character.

Staying at this hotel was a positive experience from start to finish. Their tuk-tuk driver picked us up from the bus stop where we arrived from Phnom Penh (included in price of stay). Our room was spotless and very large with every amenity one would need.

The roof-top bar and jacuzzi is a very nice place to relax before going out to dinner. The hotel also has a restaurant, but we didnt try this during our stay. The bar has a happy hour with "buy one get on free" from 5-7pm which is also convenient. We did have one little hick-up here in that one night we did not happy hour price because they said we arrived after 7. We were pretty sure we were there before 7, but could not really prove it, so we let it go, no big deal.

The breakfast is included with your stay and offers a nice range of options, both hot or cold.

Location is also good, it takes less than 10 minutes to walk to the Siem Reap down-town area and there are several restaurants nearby if you prefer to stay away from down-town Siem Reap (which is very tourist oriented).

We booked a tuk-tuk driver for exploring the Angkor temples for two days and got a really nice and helpful driver.

In all, this is a great budget choice for visiting Siem Reap. This hotel also strive to have a "responsible travel" -profile and hire and train people from the local community which is commendable.

This is a great place to stay in Siem Reap. . . . The staff are so nice, helpful and friendly. . . . the rooms have good space, are clean and nice.
The breakfast is super - with the most friendly, helpful staff. Highly recommend this hotel.

It is hard to find bad service in Cambodia- so to find service that is truly exceptional in a good way is pretty rare. This hotel is a training hotel, so on occasion things are lost in translation, or take a little longer than normal, but overall, this is the friendliest most helpful staff you will find anywhere. They go out of your way to learn about their guests and make you feel welcome everyday and in all areas of the hotel (even cleaning staff would always stop to say hello and ask about our day).

The location of this hotel is perfect. Far enough from the busier areas to be nice and quiet, but in close walking distance to the market, pub street, etc. A pool would be a lovely addition, but we were more than happy with the cold Jacuzzi and walking down the street to use a pool at a nearby hotel.
