For choice, variety and good food in a beautiful environment, you would have to go a very long way to beat this

We had the dinner buffet here, and yes, it's expensive, but a nice big variety of food. My favourite was the cheese board, breads and chocolate moose!

I was booked into the Lodge for 5 nights and on the first night the buffet looked delightful with interesting and new items to try such as roast Kudu, Waterhog stew and Wildebeest sausages.

But the tasting of was a let down. The water hog stew was full of small chips of bone which proved to be as difficult to remove as bones from a fish. The Kudu roast was dried out and tough and the sausages boring. Each night the same experience was relived.... the name plates inviting and the experience a let down. My group soon started a "warning system".... the first to arrive would dish up and as others arrived would warning them what to avoid and what was good. There was always 2 or 3 things to avoid and possibly 1 or 2 to try. It seemed the odds were stacked against you. After the third night, even though the name plates were different, it felt like we were receiving the same old stuff again and again and we went into town in search of something different.

The breakfast buffet was substantially better and I filled my omelette with the savoury mince or had croissants and cheese. This was a tasty breakfast with all the usuals.... eggs, toast, muffins, croissants, cheese, sliced meats, beans, steamed tomatoes, etc but the coffee served tasted burned. resulting in me switching to tea for the remainder of the week.

The staff were not necessary unfriendly but indifferent, no attempt at excellence or personal attention. They simply served and cleared with as little effort as they could muster.

This was a buffet which offered a varied selection of high quality food. Eat as much as you like! The restaurant was open on one side overlooking the river and might be chilly for some.
