“Great Hotel”
Reviewed August 20, 2012

This hotel is beautifully situated on bank of Chobe River. Staffs were friendly; the room was very clean and was at a great condition with very comfortable bed and a satellite TV connection. There are plenty to do there including playing golf. We had food outside as there are plenty of better foods outside at a cheaper rate.

Room Tip: Select a room from river side for a great view

Situated right on the Zambezi it has a woderful seting. The four of us stayed for three nights doing both the road and river safaris. It was perfetly acceptable aceptable acomodation in line with the marketing blurb. Our room was on the ground floor and was cleen and well appointed. Food was good although if you stayed for a longer period could get a bit monotonous as its a buffet style. Service depends on who you deal with. Generally it's good alought the bar staff seem a little lacking in charm.

Would we go back? Yes if it was for the same period of time.

I was in Kasane on business and stayed at this 4 star hotel for two nights. Its perfectly located for both business and leisure travelers. Flights are available from Jhb directly to Kasane. The hotel staff are friendly, the food was great will appeal to the European taste. The hotel is located on the banks of Chobe River on the Caprivi Strip. Nearby is the Chobe National Park. For relexation we took a boat cruise on the river, what a fantastic way to view the game. I believe this is the best way to see the wild life in this area. Bring a proper camera , a pocket camera won't do justice to what you are bound to witness from this cruise. All round a great experience at a good price. For golfers, the hotel has a 9 hole course, bring your 3 wood, pitching wedge, 7 iron , putter and golf shoes!

Room Tip: Rooms facing the packing lot tend to have pedestrian traffic, try and avoid them.

This safari lodge is out of the way admittedly but is an excellent place to stay - the rooms are fairly spacious, good tv, nice clean bathroom etc. We were staying on a half-board basis and there was a wide selection of food available, even for me as a vegetarian! The lodge backs onto the river so can get a boat straight away for excursions which is handy. One morning we had warthogs running around the grounds which was quite funny. Overall an excellent stay.

My daughter and I spent three nights here, and enjoyed every moment. Rooms beautfuilly furnished and clean, lovely gardens, gorgeous spa. Food was good, a wide range of choices, and well prepared. Really good service too.

Lovely to watch the sun going down over the river, and then listen to the hippos grunting at night.

Maybe the place has improved dramatically, or maybe it's the price relative to other options in the area, but I really didn't have one bad thing to say about my stay. I had to book the trip on very short notice, so I didn't have many options for lodging. Both tour operators I considered had Mowana as the hotel, so despite my hesitation from reading the reviews here, I resigned myself to toughing it out. There was nothing tough about the stay, though. I found the service to be very friendly and not slow, especially for Africa. The buffet dinners certainly weren't gourmet, but there were definitely some nice options, and my tour guide alerted me that there was some difficulty in getting any food at present due to strict health regulations. My room was a little small, but really well-appointed. The bathroom was a nice size and had a large tub and nice separate shower. Most people aren't going to worry too much about accommodation at Chobe since the emphasis is going to be on the wildlife, so Mowana isn't the best option for everyone. But I strongly recommend it if it meets your price/amenity needs. As long as you don't go expecting a Ritz Carlton, I think you'll be pleased with the stay.
