Full Day Tour of Sun Island in Copacabana from La Paz

Great island to walk through and see the views. Its a good idea to stay one night so you can take your time walking and not have to rush for the boat back to copacabana. The walk takes a few hours depending on how much you like to take your time. There are a few uphill sections but nothing too difficult

The island is beautiful! It was amazing to see the ruins and terraces that are still being farmed in the traditional methods.
The hike to the ruins was advertised as being only 45 minutes -- hah! maybe if you're a 20-something athlete! It took us "mature" travelers over 2 hours. We had taken the boat there from Casablanca. Our boat captain was a big grouch and yelled at us for taking too long on the hike. We had not time to explore the island. He was a wet rag on an otherwise great (but rigorous) visit to a beautiful island.

We took a boat trip to Challapampa from where we hiked (around 4 hours with some short stops) to our hotel in Yumani. On the way we visited the ruins of an Inca temple and admired the spectacular views.
The day was just incredible and I definitely recommend the hike, but be careful! There are 3 hills to climb, so go slowly but steadily.

We spent the day on Isla del Sol walking from one end of the Island to the other. There was more uphill than we expected which is challenging at the high altitude. Beautiful scenery over lake Titicaca to snow capped Bolivian mountains. Unfortunately we were unable to traverse the Island in time for lunch before the boat departed for the return trip to Copacabana.

We LOVED this island. We only went for a day tour and did the hike across the island, it was stunning. We didn't realise until we reached the end of our hike and ended up in 'town' (a little cluster of cafes and hostels on the beach) that we could've stayed here. If we had known we would've prolonged our trip to accommodate a night's stay here. Gorgeous scenery and abundant with history, you will love this island.
