“Breakfast makes this place!”
Reviewed November 20, 2013

We stayed for 2 nights in room 106, which was a superior double. Had a double and single bed as well as a sofa and table. Only issue with the room was we couldn't see the lake as advertised and the shower was cold. However, the service and breakfast makes up for this! Breakfast included pancakes, fruit, cereal, eggs, bread, yoghurts and fruit juice. Staff were very friendly and booked our bus to la paz and dropped us off at the stop.

We stayed here for 2 nights and it was ok for what we needed - a basic, clean hostel at a reasonable price in good location. The rooms all face into one main communal area so can be a little noisy - ask for a top floor room if you can. The staff were very helpful and sorted out our day trip to the Isle de Sol and bus tickets to La Paz. Laundry is also available at a reasonbale price. The water was unfortunately not very warm however and the wi-fi a bit dodgy in the rooms but good in the communal area. Free bananas and coca tea a nice touch.

We booked ahead and this was fortunate as the hotel was full when we arrived. The staff were most accommodating and gave us a choice of rooms as we had arrived early.
The downstairs lobby/ lounge area is very social mainly because the wifi works best there. Even so, the wifi was very poor however this is not a hotel specific problem as the whole of the town's reception is poor.
They provide water, coca tea, bananas and sweets in this area. For free!!
The rooms were basic but clean and the showers are electric and hot
All in all a very good experience.

The staff at this hotel was extremely friendly. When we arrived at the bus station, their minibus was already waiting for us to pick us up. We didn't arranged that upfront.
The room was clean and spacious.
The laundry service was cheap and clean.
The hotel has a big lounge or patio where you can relax and drink free coca tea or water and eat sweets, popcorn and fruit.

Room Tip: Room 108 has lakeview and a lot of space. It is in the left corner on the first floor.

Hotel Utama is on the edge of town but an easy walk to shops, restaurants, attractions and the boat to Isla del Sol. The staff were very friendly and looked after our bags for us the day we checked out. They also drove us to the Isla del Sol boat as we were running very late. The views from rooms on the top floor are lovely and the breakfast was good. The heating is only turned on when you request it but the building wasn't too cold anyway.

My husband and I stayed 3-nights at Hotel Utama. The rooms are clean and nice. The staff is helpful and very polite. I was pleasantly surprised by our extensive breakfast, which included pancakes, eggs, yogurt, granola, fruit cup, juice and coffee or tea. Our rate included this delicious breakfast and it was all made to order for each customer. It was a wonderful change from the bare breakfasts that we received in the past (basic bread, butter, and jam). They have mate, coffee, fruit, and various snacks in the lobby for patrons. It's a thoughtful touch and I appreciated being able to have a light snack in between meals. They have laundry service that is quite expensive but you have the convenience of not needing to take it down the street. The wifi is powered off at 10pm each night but truly stops working around 5pm. It seems that this is a problem in the entire town though, not just with them.

Location is fine - just a few mins up from the main square, what is great though is that if they know you are coming they will stand at the bus stops when the buses come in with a sign with your name on and provide a transfer - you don't have to arrange it, they just go to the buses.
Service is friendly, rooms are fine. Wifi is not great, you can get it but it is super slow. Hot water is via electric showers - ok once you are used to them.
The selection of Tv channels is astounding - you even get HBO!
Where this place really excels however is breakfast - it's not a buffet.. you will be given: bread, butter, jam, fruit salad, fruit juice, pancake, cornflakes, yogurt, choice of fried or scrambled egg, slice of ham, slice of cheese and choice of hot drink. It's immense for South America and worth staying here for alone. Also free water, coca tea, fruit and sweets all day long in the main common area. Great place.
