It was nice to stay in a place outside the main tourist hub, but still be within a short walk to the cafes and restaurants. The hill up is certainly a steep one at this altitude, but we found if you go around the block instead of straight up its just a bit longer and much easier. Also, one of the best restaurants in town is just a few metres away at the same height! The central enclosed courtyard is an attractive feature and all of the rooms are set off walkways at various levels above this common space. Our room was small but comfortable. The use of the heater at night was good. The beds were comfortable and warm. The shower is certainly fickle, it seems to trip a safety switch when the room gets too steamy - so make sure you beat your room mate to the first shower. Second one in usually gets a burst of freezing water when it shuts down! Wi-fi is very weak, but we found that was generally the case in Bolivia. That aside, we had 4 good nights stay here and recommend it.

Transportation between the hotel and bus was complimentary – most welcome, as it’s a tough two-block walk! (Everything in Copacabana is either up or downhill, and usually both!) It’s a relatively large hotel of a couple of dozen rooms on two floors around a huge open center area. My view was of the hills behind town, rather than Lake Titicaca, but I loved seeing the city, the Cathedral, etc. There’s a big double bed with lots of room around it and two big easy chairs flanking the window. Bananas, apples, cold clean water and mate de coca (coca tea) are available for free. There is no TV. The view and the silence are great. Breakfast has many components in modest amounts: cereal, pancake, bread, egg, cheese, ham, sliced tomato, fruit salad, juice, coffee. Hotel staff are very pleasant and helpful, and skilled at arranging travel and tours.
Weak Wifi turns off at 10 p.m. The hotel is unheated, but loans propane heaters to rooms until 10 p.m., removing them then for safety’s sake. The electric shower touchy; you have to learn not to turn on any more volume than needed, as then it’s hottest. The shower curtain is too short, so water pools in the bathroom, but the drain isn’t too badly placed, and water can be mopped up with a bathmat. The bathroom window tends to be left open during the day, and flies come in.

Room Tip: Ask for a heater! Enjoy the views.

The hostel has a good location in Copacabana with good views over the lake and town. The staff were friendly and attentive and the free sweets, fruit and Cocoa tea a bonus. The only down side was the showers which were luke warm at best and appeared to be on an indiscriminate timer of some sort. Overall though the room rate was cheap and the beds clean and comfortable. Breakfast was good selection of cereal and fruit and eggs, coffee and tea.

I enjoyed my 3 nights here! The room was nice, the bed was huge and comfortable and the breakfast was good! There was water, hot drinks and fruit available all day long.
The only thing I can say to critisise is how bad the wifi is.

We stayed on the 2nd floor for one night. The room was comfortable and had a TV (which we didn't watch so I can't comment on stations). I could get about 1 bar of wifi reception at best in the room and eventually gave up. The rooms aren't heated but they give you enough blankets to stay warm. The hotel echoes so I wore earplugs at night. The bathroom was small, cold and had no hot water! Neither of us could face a cold shower in cold weather.. The breakfast is better than the usual on offer in these parts but still average at best. There is a big area for socialising downstairs but there weren't many people around during our stay. Laundry cost us 15 Bs/kg. The staff kindly agreed to mind our bags while we stayed at Isla del Sol. I'd look for somewhere with hot water next time.

I have no idea how this place doesn't have more bad reviews!! We stayed here as part of a month-long trip and this was amongst the WORST places we stayed!!!

First of all, the 'shuttle' that picked us up from the bus stop was so random. It was this little van that some guy just drove around near the bus stop asking people if they were staying at Hotel Utama....werid.

Then, when we arrived, the hotel was in pretty bad shape. When it rained, I swear, rain was coming in though some places in the roof!! The beds were gross. Tons of RANDOM HAIRS left in the bed sheets, on the pillows, and on the 'comfortors'. Yuck!!

The walls in the rooms (and everywhere) looked like someone had decided to start painting them, but then never finished....or maybe they just painted over the mouldy spots? Not sure but it was gross.

Go into the bathroom - find a huge disgusting hairball on the floor. Find a weird, dirty looking very cheap plasticky type toilet seat and very odd/uncomfortable toilet paper.
The shower was absolutely tiny and dirty oh, and there was absolutely no hot water. FREEZING shower!!! Not a nice way to start my day.

The room was also so small that there was almost nowhere to put our luggage....let alone to move around each other to get to our beds....

The one thing that saved this place from a 'terrible' review was their breakfast. The breakfast was actually very nice. Eggs, fruit, bread, coffee, tea, juice etc. (but they wanted to charge you extra if you wanted more of something - even for a juice refill...)

Oh, and it's quite an uphill walk from the main strip and bus stops....and if you're taking a bus that leaves before their shuttle, they will still try to convince you to take their shuttle....and they don't care if you miss your bus to La Paz.

Shady...

We are retired world travelers on a budget. Hotel Utama was a delightful medium sized hotel, with clean, comfortable rooms, hot water, and a very good breakfast included. It was tastefully decorated with murals all around. The staff was friendly and helpful. Our room had great views of lake Titicaca and the town of Copacabana. It sits on a hill so it's a little hike to get to it but, it's closer to the lake than about 50% of the hotels there, about a 5 minute walk. We enjoyed our 4 day stay there.

You might have to pay just a little bit more for this hotel. The view is worth it and you get a superior breakfast that more than makes up for the extra cost. We paid $35. If you contact the hotel direct, I'm sure you can get a better deal.

The only small problems we had were the wi-fi was weak in the rooms and there is limited English-speaking staff. Note that there are no hotels in this price range that offer heating and it gets cold at night. We were very warm in our bed with three blankets but this situation is common throughout Bolivia.

In Copacabana there are lots of inexpensive restaurants, a relaxed, walking friendly, type town. There are several places to go hiking. There are three different boat excursions to the islands in lake Titicaca.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms facing city and lake
