The national park didn't feature much in our guide book but we just fancied a trip into a national park. It turned out to be one of the best things we did. Although you can easily get yourself to Torotoro and hire a guide we decided to go through El Molina- a hotel in Torotoro who picked us up from our hostel in Cochbamba and provided our meals and a guide(It was about 500bolivianos a day per person, one company in our guide book quoted double that). Although we could only stay for one night (so couldn't see everything the park had to offer) we had an incredible time and went 300mtrs into a cavern (I'm not that adventurous or strong but the guide was amazing and I felt safe the whole time), saw so many dinosaur footprints up close we felt like we were going to see some walking around at any point and saw the canyon which we then went down into to a subterranean waterfall. If you're not very adventurous you can still see lots of lovely views but even though it pushed me I loved every minute of our tour there. The guides are really knowledgeable and I imagine in another 5-10years Torotoro will be giving Macchu Pichu and other attractions in S.America a run for thier money. We didn't see many other tourists and our guide kept us 'ahead' of the others so we could feel isolated in this real life Jurassic Park.

it takes up to 6 hours on the bus to get there, and the town is very small and quiet, but the scenery along the way, once you're there etc makes it worth the trip.

the dinosaur prints and tracks are really cool (although they should not let people walk on them, it'll damage them over time), the walk to the canyon and views from the mirador are spectacular, the caves and caverns at Itas are amazing and the caving at umajalanta is a blast (shame the stalagtites are almost all damaged)

+ the umajalanta cave is very interesting (nothing for people with claustrophobia)
+ dinosaur tracks (there are many close to the different sites one can visit)
+ there is a canyon (El Vergel) that looks nice and one can walk down (very nice path) to take a bath
+ the hostel was a pleasant surprise (not as basic as e.g., at the salar de uyuni)

- on our tour we ate always at the "comedor popular" - eating at another place would have been great
