“Loved it!”
Reviewed February 20, 2013

My husband and I traveled to Belize in December 2012. Maruba was our first stop and we loved every moment. The staff was very friendly and very accomodating. The rum punch is awesome! The pools are lovely. We stayed in a signature suite (worth the extra money) and it was absolutely beautiful. I was worried about insects, but there were practically none while we were there. Our room was screened, there was A/C and they lit incense every evening to keep the bugs away. We took the riverboat tour to Lamanai and it was the highlight of our entire holiday. The aromatherapy massage with Kimberly was glorious! The mood mud massage was not our cup of tea...it was cold and uncomfortable. The food was delicious but you need to budget for high cost meals. (I found it this way at every resort in Belize). We loved breakfast in the treehouse! The resort is small, so you get to know many of the other patrons (especially if you do the tours). This resort is not for people who want to go clubbing or stay up all night partying. We had a wonderful time there and when our 3 days were up, we wished we had booked 6 instead. Would recommend this place to anyone who can be away from technology and soak up the culture for a few days.

Room Tip: Go for the signature suite. It's worth the money!

For what this place is, it's great. It is about 45 minutes down a half dirt road into the Belizean jungle. This place offered a unique jungle resort feel and offered some of the best tours. Good customer service. Make sure you are on "Belize time" and take it easy. Thats what this place is all about--but still prompt with anything that is scheduled like tours. We took a couple tours with Delwin and he was great, very knowledgable and personable. I would suggest cave tubing with him and Atun Ha with Emilcar. Janeel was also accommodating and knowledgable. Since this resort is away from anything else, you will eat all of your meals at the same place unless you are on tours. The menu was good and had multiple specials everyday so nothing repetitive, including at least one vegetarian special everyday. FYI - This resort also had a few armed guards that patrol the grounds. Thanks for a good stay.

None of the research we did would have kept us from choosing Maruba. The photos on the Internet gave the impression that Maruba was a special place. What the photos did not reveal, however, was how badly Maruba was in need of a makeover.
Our room was in a building that we thought was the dormitory for employees when we passed it on our arrival. The decoration was odd to say the least – silver painted walls inside and out, cheap, cheesy and strange looking furniture.
But worse than that was the condition of our room and of the linens and towels. The room was dirty, the shower curtain was moldy, and the bed sheets and towels were smelly. We stayed in the room only when it was absolutely necessary.
The spa was just as bad. The massage table was moldy and the sheets smelled so bad we couldn't wait for our massages to end.
To be sure, the swimming pool setting was nice but the cushions on the chairs were also old and moldy and needed to be replaced.
We travel a lot and never before have stayed at a place that felt so dated and dirty. Our stay at Maruba was pure torture and we couldn’t wait to leave.

At Maruba we want each guest to have the best experiences possible and consistently check on guests satisfaction and comfort whether it be getting a comfortable night's sleep, dinning, or spa and tours. Had the guest/reviewer informed staff or management during their stay they did not like the room and had other issues, we would have done what we could to accommodate them. There would have been other room choices & upgrades so the time spent at the resort would have been enjoyable instead of letting it fester or waiting until check out.

We thank you for taking the time to read Maruba Belize reviews and responses.

My wife and I spent 3 days at the maruba resort for my 33rd birthday. Belize in general was an off the grid type of adventure which we are both novices at when it comes to travel outside of the 48. But the resort was the perfect place to experience the true heart of Belize while still having most of the creature comforts we all take for granted. The rooms were ample and eclecticly decorated which made the entire resort have a alice in wonderland meets jungle paradise vibe. The line level staff were all extrmely accommodating while the uper mgmt took some getting used to before they seemed to warm up to us and realize we were bot your typical american groupon kids. The grounds were amazing, pools breathtaking and ornate and all the tile work must have taken ages to complete. The food and drink were probably the best of our trip and even though the menu was limited it was still more than ample. The water in the guest rooms was really the only thing I truly noticed to be offensive as it has a sulfur smell that takes some getting used to. The tours were really the icing on the cake however and I would recomend taking the extra time to take both the speed boat ride through the mangroves which was only second to the jungle hike, zip lining and cave tuning. The cave tubing was the highlight of the entire trip and a must see. Take the time to zip line, while a short course there are some furry critters that make the trip not your normal ride through the canopy. I would say all in all if you are looking for a reasonably "safe" belieze adventure and I use that term relatively. Give the maruba resort a shot, don't expect the ritz, but as long as you remember where you are you will realize Maruba is the epitome of Belizian Luxury

In the middle of the jungle is this amazing oasis with everything you could ask for. Great restaurant, good drinks, a spa, and beautiful grounds. The room was great and we were even upgraded to a room with a hot tub, which was awesome. I highly recommend!

I visited Maruba as one of ten people on the second half of an "adventure" package. The grounds are lovely but it's rather far from anything else so once you're there you're there to stay. Lunch was expensive for mediocre food. All four people at my table received cold food almost an hour after we ordered and we would have mentioned it to our server but she was MIA for most of the meal. She, the owner, and the other staff members all treated us as a nuisance and not as customers. No one in our tour group was happy with the visit, but we were stuck there for hours.

Most of the activities listed on the website that are normally offered were not available, and they weren't going to allow us use of the pool until our confused tour guides spoke with the owner. Whatever miscommunication happened between Maruba "resort" and Seaduced Watercraft Adventures should not have been reflected in their treatment towards our small tour group, all of whom were customers of their restaurant and paid quite a bit of money for cold, small meals and neglectful service.

Maruba received a travelers choice award from tripadvisor. Baffling! Now I know not to regard them with much credence.

This review addresses several other experiences from Lunch visitors to Maruba and unfortunately did not meet expectations. Maruba is a resort and many activities at the resort listed on the website are for hotel guest only like the pools, mineral baths, and other activities. The waitress enforced the pool use which caused issue and that was the problem as it has been in other reviews. The pools and mineral bath at Maruba are for Hotel Guest.

Generally lunch orders are served within 20 minutes of ordering. Some items can come out quicker if you are hungry but you need to ask what is fast and that you are Hungary. Some items take longer to produce so your tables order may take longer if everyone is served at the same time.

My daughter and I went for my 60th birthday, we live in Placencia and I own Millers Landing Resort. I have to say this was so worth it, rooms clean comfortable and filled with flowers. We were kind of talked into the mud massage, I told my daughter that we should listen to the owner and it was incredible, the best and she bathed us after in these neat outside tubs. We, also got the aroma therapy massage, and facial, you could get 2 things with lunch as a package, I would of thought that you would just get whatever lunch came with it, but you could order right off the menu. The grounds are beautiful and the music is incredible.
I totally want to go back with husband, Everyone, from owners, managers and all staff are friendly, professional without being intrusive. So many times, masseuses talk too much, but not here. Normally, it is above our budget, but you only live once and I will go again
