Wanted to stay at the Amargosa Opera House but that was sold out, so they recommended this place which is 7 miles away.

Room rate was $95 for most basic room. The price is very high for the services offered, but they do have a mini-monopoly on lodging that side of death valley.

Pros
* Friendly staff
* Clean rooms with fridge, coffee maker etc
* Huge laundry facilities, small convenience store
* Decent, fairly-priced on-site restaurant.

Cons
* Price
* Rooms are very dated, tiny tvs, old beds, quirky showers
* No internet access offered. Not paid, not free, not in lobby. Cell phone reception is non-existent as well. Prepare to disconnect.

The casino itself is minimal btw. not sure if that's a con or a pro.

Bottom line, if you're going to visit Death Valley, this is an acceptable option if somewhat pricey. Just keep your expectations at a very moderate level.

...after canceling our stay at Amargosa Hotel 7 miles away, we found this little gem of place...very clean, staff was freindly and helpful, food in the cafe was above average and overall this place was a good value...about an hour's drive from Beatty and Rhyolite, and an hour from Furnace Creek....a good stop if traveling between Death Valley and Vegas.

We had to cancel our reservation, the day before we were supposed to come. Unfortunately I've been charged of the full price. No refund until today, in spite of a phone call, and 2 mails. None answer too, the desert's silent I suppose

The Longstreet is located where Nevada 373 / CA-127 crosses the state line. My teenage son and I stayed one night to visit the Amargosa Opera House about 10 miles away.

The room was spacious and clean. There was a sink / counter in the bathroom, and another in the bedroom which also had a coffeemaker; a very nice feature. Towels were very thin. The beds were comfortable. There was very little highway noise (very little traffic), but quite a bit of noise from adjoining rooms and the hallway. Bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper.

Rooms face the highway and parking lot on one side, or a lawn and large pond on the other. Some rooms have fireplaces.

Checkin and checkout takes awhile. The front desk clerk also handles the adjacent convenience store / mini mart, and the RV park registration. It can be a bit of a wait if there's several other customers.

The front lobby has a small casino, an area with live music in the evenings with a dance floor, and a coffee shop area separated by a partition. We ate at the coffee shop- smoke from the casino was noticeable. The food itself was very good and inexpensive.
I also noticed a coin laundry, whcih might be handy to some travelers.

I recommend the Longstreet Inn as a good, basic place to stay. They are on par with Motel 6, maybe slightly better. If you're looking for a location with a choice of restaurants and other activities, you will be better off in Pahrump.

One last comment, the hotel is a few miles from Ash Meadows Natl Wildlife Refuge. There are hot springs that are home to rare, endangered Pupfish that have survived there since the Ice Age! If you have a spare 1-2 hours, take the short hike on the boardwalk at the visitor's center.

  • Liked — Good value, convenient to Amargosa Opera House
  • Disliked — Smoky restaurant, nothing else in the area

Restaurant right by casino non-smoking?? RIGHT!! The whole common area was filled with smoke. Even the person at the front desk was lighting up!! I understand she was probably new, but if you are going to have a new person there, please have somebody else there to help!! She was clearly frustrated and struggling to do very basic things. At least the rooms were smoke free. Pool not open until memorial day? Food mediocre, but the service at the restaurant was pretty good. Hair follicles in the shower, room not sufficiently clean. I was very disappointed overall...

Very friendly employees. Was there on a Sat. night & they had a band in the bar playing country and classic rock. They were excellent. Dance floor and inexpensive beer. Had a great time. Met plenty of locals too that were very welcoming. Rooms were very clean, bed was comfortable. Cafe had decent breakfast. Enjoyed my stay.

  • Liked — Band in the bar.
  • Disliked — Gift shop was 99% groceries not gifts.

After reading all the glowing reviews, I was pretty a bit disappointed with this property in some regards. It truly was in the middle of nowhere, and it took us a lot longer to arrive from Las Vegas airport after turning off Highway 95 onto 373 than we expected. (I challenge you to find this place on a mapping program. Even the hotel's website's directions are too vague to be very helpful.) There are no gas stations for miles, and gas was $4/gallon in Death Valley National Park when we were there in late March, so be sure to fill up at the intersection of 95/373 or some other distant gas station in the area.
When we called the Longstreet to book a room a couple of months before our arrival, we were told there were no $89 or $99 rooms. The only choice was $109, which certainly didn't seem like too much after looking at Las Vegas prices!! When we arrived, the hotel looked almost deserted. I would be amazed if more than 10 people had rooms there that night. Still, I paid the $109 (no type of discount available) to the male desk clerk (who was smoking), and we made our way through the smoky casino/restaurant/front desk/dance floor area to our room (106 - first floor). Thankfully the room didn't smell smoky in spite of the fact that it was separated only by a short hallway from the casino area. The King bed room was big and had a gas fireplace (which we didn't use because it was record heat the day we were there), two arm chairs and a loveseat. There was also a back door that led to the beautiful duck pond in the back of the hotel. Since our room was on the first floor we were pleased to be able to walk out the back door of our room to relax by the pond. We ate a late dinner in the hotel restaurant and were pleased with the food and the prices. Only 6 other people were in the restaurant for late dinner, and only 4 for breakfast at 8 a.m. (The breakfast waitress, Carol Ann was particularly helpful and entertaining!)
Now for the room: although it was clean and spacious, the king bed was hard and awful. The linens were very low quality and scratchy & towels were particularly cheap, thin and small. An upgrade in linens would be such a simple, easy thing to do - I don't understand why they skimped on them. Amenities were fine. The walls were thin, and we got to hear the couple in the next room talk (and otherwise entertain themselves) until 3:30 a.m. or later. Needless to say, we didn't sleep well. I was glad that we weren't staying a 2nd night although I have to admit that this place is certainly interesting. There is a corral area on the side of the hotel with peacocks, a cow, and burros. (Baby burro was awfully cute.) The pond area is well groomed and clean. The outdoor pool looks ok but we didn't try it. We aren't gamblers and didn't even play the slots, but there were only a couple of people in the casino. The live band was entertaining (It was Saturday night) and several couples (average age was probably 70) were dancing and having a great time. We truly felt like we were in a Time Warp. A bus load of Senior Citizens was arriving the day we left, so we were glad to be clearing out and had enough gas to get to Death Valley and beyond.
