Owner description: Stroll through the history of a once-bustling river town that’s now the serene village of Arrow Rock. You’ll walk streets lined with the architecture of the historic “Boone’s Lick Country.” At Arrow Rock State Historic Site, you may wander into the historic Old Tavern, which dates back to 1834 and provides a dining experience in a period setting or see displays of old-time wares at the Huston Store. You can learn about it all through exhibits in the visitor center. The historic site is part of the larger Village of Arrow Rock, which features quaint stores and a bevy of antique shops.

I attended a lecture at the V. C. and the facilities were god for a surprisingly large crowd. hen I took a stroll through the display areas and liked the coverage of the history of this part of Missouri.

“Incredible History Museum”
Reviewed February 2, 2012

The museum at this state historic site is just great. It does a wonderful job of explaining and showing so much of Missouri history and the western expansion. The village of Arrow Rock is lovely and played an important role for those going west...it was the last location for fresh water springs before moving into the saline area of western Missouri. The tour of the village on little golf carts given by the Friends of Arrow Rock is fantastic - I could have listened to our guide all day long, he was that interesting.

“Cool little historic town”
Reviewed January 23, 2012

If you want a look back into American history, this is a good spot for it. Daniel Boone was in this area, George Caleb Bingham was a painter from here, and this was an important site in the westward expansion. The Lyceum is a great place for theater (mostly in the summer). There are a lot of great little B&Bs here, and they have a fun fall festival.

History perserved. A pleasant walk, unspoiled. Check out the jail and the storefronts with boardwalks out front. Hand crefted items in the stores just like they were made long ago.
