We were forced into this hotel after the interstate closed during a blizzard this past winter. It was New Years Eve and quite literally this was the only place in Alexandria that had a vacancy - and now we know why.
Check in was terrible - mind you, the clerk probably wasn't expecting dozens of people that late at night. She wasn't properly trained and kept calling her manager to walk her through the process.
We required a pet friendly room (bonus that they offer those!) but that means you're in the very back of the hotel in some grubby, smelly, chilly area.
The room was clean but very, very worn and shabby. Bedding was faded and had burn marks in the bedspread, carpet was stained and also had burn marks, the heater gave off a constant burning smell. Windows were drafty, doors/walls very thin, fridge sounded like a freight train and the bathroom was honestly about the size of an airplane bathroom with a dingy little shower/bath in the corner (which was yellowing in peeling). Towels were threadbare and pillows were comparable to rocks.
Perhaps the worst part of the stay was the manager who worked days - VERY unprofessional, stand offish and just downright rude. She should be in another line of work!
Obviously the hotel was bursting at the seams with people (no vacancy) and she seemed short tempered and easily irritated by the children who were going to the pool area. Our run in with her was over our dog. As we walked out the front door (with him on a short leash and him not making any noise whatsoever) she snapped at us as we walked by "EXCUSE ME. But people have allergies and you should not have animals in the front lobby." Given that I was pregnant, sleep deprived and beyond irritated that we were stuck at this hole in the wall, I was all too happy to point out to her that both housekeeping and the maintenance man informed us (and a few other people with animals) as we went to leave from the backdoor to please use the front entrance as there was a major ice overhang directly above the backdoor and they were in the process of removing it and needed all guests to stay away. Her response? She rolled her eyes and started sniffling.
She also snapped at the gentleman behind us (also on his way out the front door with his small dog as he had been instructed to do by the staff working at the back) but he wasn't as polite as I was.
In all fairness to the hotel, they were obviously unprepared for the onslaught of unexpected storm guests and most of the staff were trying their best to keep up with demand. But the day manager and one of the girls on afternoons (who spent most of her shift arguing with someone on her cell phone) were highly unprofessional and unhelpful.
I would not stay there again - I would prefer to sleep in my car!

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the front of the hotel - try to avoid the back of the hotel due to noise, poor hea...

Check-in was fairly long, only one person working. Had to wait for the bundle of joy ahead of me to pay with change and the other person it her group wanting a smoking room and then changing their minds afterwards. Its posted no food or beverages in the pool area. A large group decided to make their own bar in the pool area after being kicked out of the lobby for drinking. My family as well as other families with small children were disgusted. The hotel is nice from the outside but has an odor and needs major updating inside. The carpeting in one corner of our room was ripped up and a reclining chair was placed there to hide it. A cheap place to stay, that was the only plus....

The room was ok for the most part except for the location of the clothing rack. My husband almost took his eye out walking to the bed from the bathroom. The rack was situated on the wall near the bed, who would put this there? Granted, the rooms aren't all that big but if someone should hit their head, you've got a lawsuit on your hands.

When I walked in the smell hit me in the face! Pool and then a slight hint of… well poo. There was no one at the front desk; they just had a sign that said call this number for assistance. The person that came was friendly and courteous. I tried to ignore the smell. The room was in need of some updating and a good cleaning. Bed was fine and sheets were clean, but it was an uneasy sleep. The smell in the hallway thankfully stayed in the hallway and front entrance. I won’t be staying here again.

The hotel was just what we were looking for in that we only needed a place to sleep. It was inexpensive, and clean. We were impressed with the new flat screen tv on the wall, rather than the old clunky ones. But the decor needs updating and it smelled a little musty. The pool area was clean and the hot tub was ok. Just a very average place to stay.
