Going to Ft Custer you realize it is not necessary to drive far and get the feel of up-north. Shaded, private camp sites and also has some less shaded sites. Large camp fire ring - great for cooking and then enjoying the camp fire at night. Camp sites accommodate 5th wheels, RVs, and tents. Bathrooms are maintained. Love the trails. Great for all levels of biking, hiking, and walking. Also enjoy observing the horses on the horse trails. Dog mushing in the winter with sleds and in the spring and fall with bikes and carts. Enjoy talking to the mushers about their experiences. Excellent place to introduce your kids and grandkids to fishing. Large beach area and down the way an area you can take the dogs swimming. A plus for dog owners! (always remember to pick up after your dogs!) Staff is friendly and helpful. A great place to get away from it all without driving too far. Definitely try to camp during the Harvest Fest weekend. A lot of activities for the kids. Also visit Ft Custer's National Cemetery across the street. Beautiful and historical.

We live just south of Lansing so it is only 45 mins from our home to Fort Custer. We love staying here! It has that "up-north" feel and yet is so close to home! We bring our boat and make the drive to Gull Lake in Richland, which is one of our favorite lakes in the state!
