“Great secret”
Reviewed September 2, 2012

This was my 2nd stay at the Residence Inn, Ann Arbor. Each time, the hotel was completely booked. This hotel tends to get pricy.

The pool and whirlpool are very small and outdoors.

There are a few BBQ grills and small room upstairs for exercising.

There are various assortment of rooms, studio, one bedroom and 2 bedrooms. Ours was 2 beds and small kitchen.

There was hair in the tub upon our arrival, but since this is not the 1st time I have seen this, I am suspect it is the cleaning brushes that leave hair in the tub.

The reception staff generally are nice, check in and check out are easy, but when asking for info. regarding the town, or Marriot info, the ability greatly varies.

The lobby is small but adequate. After 11pm, one of the 2 doors remains locked making it inconvenient to walk to the lobby at night.I am assuming it is for security for the one reception person at the desk, but the customer then has to walk in the dark to access the lobby.

The rooms could use some updating, but for us it was adequate. There are fireplaces in some rooms but since we were there in the summer, we never used it.

The buffet breakfast was ok, hot eggs, oatmeal, fruit, yogurt...even hot rice.
The staff all very pleasant!

The grounds are kept nicely.
The prices were high for a Residence Inn.

Thank you for commenting on your experience. We are pleased to hear your stay was pleasant. I apologize regarding your trouble accessing the lobby late at night. We do lock both doors for security purposes, but guests have access with their key cars at both. Hope to accommodate you again at the Residence Inn Ann Arbor.

Spent Parent/Student Orientation at the University of Michigan at the Residence Inn in Ann Arbor - it is close to the mall, and a great location, close to campus, and the everything - - plus the rooms were huge!

Room Tip: Its a typical Residence Inn plan - room on the second floor is much more quite! However parking is...

Well, having just stayed the previous nice in an immaculate and seemingly new Residence Inn, this place was a tiny bit of a let down. It almost is not fair to review it, comparing it to the other.

The room is nice enough but much older appearing with the appliances not being as nice. It is just not done in the same style and the furnishings are old. The mattress also hurt my back.

But it is a very comfortable place to stay. You can bring your dogs. Thank you! The grounds are really beautiful with gorgeous walkways frames with really nice platings.

It was also quiet. The thing that stands out is how friendly the staff is here. Very accommodating and nice.

I would highly recommend it although it is not as "nice" as the one in Pennsylvania.

Room Tip: Would highly recommend for someone traveling as a family or with pets.

The Residence Inn was comfortable, quiet, and clean. I don't know where they find the people who work there, but they are the nicest people in the hotel industry! Great place to come with your dogs.

My review as going to be harsher based on the cleanliness of our room and the dated decor, but...the staff at this location is so genuinely nice that it really does make up for the shortcomings. Everyone I came in contact with had a sincere smile and a pleasant word. Provided breakfast in the morning was very good.

We stayed at the Ann Arbor Residence Inn during a trip with our son to apartment hunt. We stayed in a two bedroom apartment in the main building (note: this was not the two story 2 bedroom). We found this a very nice place to stay - the apartment was nicely furnished, quiet, and the beds were comfortable. It was great to have the kitchen, especially the full sized refrigerator. Our room was clean. We didn't notice any of the problems with the grounds that others noticed - everything seemed well maintained, and there was plenty of parking. The hotel does sit close to the freeway, but the main building where we stayed was perfectly quiet - we didn't hear any traffic (there was a building tucked back closer to the freeway, so be sure to ask for the main single floor two bedrooms if you are in need of a two bedroom, as they seemed to be in the main building) Sound-proofing was excellent. The hotel was fully booked for several nights of our stay and we didn't hear a peep from the hallway or adjoining apartments. The free breakfast and dinner (during the week) were both nice options - the food wasn't necessarily something to write home about, but it was nice to have the option of not having to go out to eat when one of us wasn't feeling well. We found the staff here to be great as well - very friendly and helpful. The location was just across the street from the Marriott Courtyard, so if you are wondering about whether to stay at one or the other, know that there is zero difference in terms of location. It took us about 15 minutes to get to central campus at UMich or to downtown Ann Arbor. However, there was road work going on on state street that re-routed traffic to campus through side streets, thus adding to the drive. Returning from campus was much quicker.

Some small minsues: Housekeeping was a bit slow in terms of making up our room each day, but this wasn't a major issue for us as we were out of the apartment most mornings. The size of the bedrooms was a little tight. No luggage racks were provided in either bedroom. Not much in walking distance in terms of restaurants - you need a car here. And, finally, this is absolutely NOT the hotel's fault, but when returning from UMich to the road fronting the hotel, it is impossible to turn left into that street - a small inconvenience.

Overall, we thought this was a great place to stay, and we have already made reservations to again in August!

Room Tip: If you need a two bedroom, ask for one of the two bedrooms that are on a single floor. The main thr...
