“Disgusting and expensive Fish and Chips”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 28, 2011

I love the barbecue in this place, it is one of the best in Ann Arbor. But you should not ever try the fish and chips because this food is one of the worst I had ever tried in any place in the world! They serve you only three or four small of dry and even more stinky fish. The only good thing are the fries, but you don´t want to pay almost $12 per fries, plus the tip. since this is not the waitress fault.
Do yourself a favor and don´t even try them. Just ask for the barbecue!

“Expensive and the food is not really good”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 5, 2010

Expensive and the food is not really good. The restaurant is dark and full of smoke. Both the ribs and steak are very dry and not tasty.

“So so BBQ, certainly not up with Memphis' best”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 15, 2010

I've eaten at Smokehouse Blues twice now, once for dinner and once for lunch. Between the two visits I've had their ribs (wet and dry), sliced brisket and pulled pork. Also tried the BBQ beans with pork, Southern greens and Old Fashioned potato salad. There were rolls served ahead of the meal both times. A combo plate of two meats and two sides along with iced tea was $20 for lunch or dinner.

Neither time was the place busy, odd as both meals were at what one would think as prime time. We were seated promptly and a server came by reasonably soon for our drink orders. Lunch found the wait staff more attentive but neither time was there a big delay in getting things.

The food. The first visit was wet ribs and sliced brisket. The ribs were over done, burnt almost, and swimming in sauce so it was hard to tell much. The brisket was almost tasteless and also had too much sauce. The second visit I requested the meat be served dry and was told the pulled pork was pre-sauced and was not available dry. Fortunately is wasn't drowning in it and I could taste the meat. It was basic pork, nothing to write home about. It was not overcooked and had some texture to it. Still would be nice to get it without sauce. The ribs were served dry as requested and were much better than the first visit. Like another reviewer mentioned, it's hard to tell exactly how the ribs are cooked. I think they may be parboiled first but I'm not sure. As for these being the "best ribs in town" goes, if this is true it would be more a reflection of the dearth of BBQ in the area than the quality of these ribs.

I had the greens both times and they were really very good. The beans are forgettable. The potato salad was above average, interestingly they add red bell pepper to it.

“Fair At Best”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 13, 2009

Nothing special here. Slab of ribs is $20. Nothing was wrong but nothing to remember. I'm still trying to figure out how they cooked the ribs. It's like they used liquid smoke on them, but I don't know for sure. For the price there are a lot of other places to go. I knew we were in trouble when only three other tables had people. With so many options in town we aren't going back.

“Just OK”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 4, 2008

Probably the best ribs in town. They are good, but nothing special.

I've never seen it crowded either.

The bar can be pretty smokey and usually has a few losers and drunks hanging about, so better to stick to the dining room for eating.
