“Lovely but lacking”
Reviewed September 27, 2013

My husband and I went to celebrate our anniversary because we heard many great things about GD. We were far from impressed, however. We went on a Big 10 football night, so perhaps the restaurant was a bit off because they were understaffed or distracted by following the game...but we ordered the calamari appetizer which our server described as "flash fried." When it came out (less than 5 minutes after we ordered it), it was soggy and not crispy at all. When our server came back by the table (when we were about halfway through the dish), my husband asked for clarification on preparation, explaining that the dish seemed a bit soggy. Our server apologized immediately, saying, "I was worried about that because they put it up so quickly." Clearly we had been given an order that was prepared earlier and not sold/used. He replaced it with a fresh one which was completely different in terms of crispness. The manager brought the fresh dish to our table, saying, "I had them put the sauce on the side since sometimes it makes the dish get soggy too quickly." We found it insulting that rather than owning the mistake, the manager was tried imply we just didn't like the sauce on the dish.

My husband ordered a pasta and shrimp entree which he found to be very average and not particularly good. I loved my crab cakes and the wedge salad was phenomenal.

Our server apologized when he brought the check, saying he thought his manager should have taken the appetizer off the bill (which was not removed).

I doubt we'll be back. We've always had entirely outstanding experiences at Gratzi and would prefer to stick with a consistently excellent restaurant than take a chance on another "okay" experience.

“Worst Restaurant in Ann Arbor”
Reviewed August 25, 2013

The attitude and management at this restaurant is down right poor. This restaurant would NEVER survive in Los Angeles or New York. Gandy Dancer is definitely in the bottom tier in terms of how the management conducts themselves.

My friends and I went their for a bday. We had a special bday discount but the manger would not honor it, because it wasn't loaded on the card.

Any decent restaurant with even average management skills would have honored the $25 credit or at least comped an entree or given us a dessert on the house. My friend even showed the manager his driver's license, but manager was not swayed and lacked professionalism.

Save your money and go to Real Seafood or Gratzi on your bday. You get a free entree and dessert.

We would never go back, but hope the manager on duty on 8/25/2013 can be take a class on Restaurant Management 101. Hopefully, he passes, because on this day he got a F.

“Consistent Quality and Experience”
Reviewed July 30, 2013

The menu is great, quality is there, and we always have a nice experience. Also enjoy the ambiance. They know how to manage and operate a restaurant the way it should be done and that's why we keep going back.

“Not as expected”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

Ambience is great, beautiful old building that once served as a train depot. Decor up to par with a restaurant of this calibre.

Visited recently with a large group of business partners. Most were satisfied with the food, but some felt that the service was not up to par. Orders were not accurate with errors in beverage and dinner items with one of our party receiving a different dinner than what was ordered.

“Excellent meal”
Reviewed July 28, 2013

First time eating here and will definitely be back. Lots of charm and character to this restaurant. I had the pretzel crusted walleye and it was superb. We also had coconut shrimp, filet, pasta, and crab legs. All four of us loved our entrees. Delicous!
