Arrived at hotel, staying at the brand new marriotts townplace suites. Obviously they still have some kinks to work out. Arrived at 530pm, room not ready yet, but attendant was pleasant and all was well. I decided to leave and come back later, at 639 room was all set, was given room 214. Went upstairs to drop off luggage, we noticed the floor was shaking, a loud vibration as was the bed. Was it an earthquake? Buzzing down to the front desk she sent someone up to see what was up, found out I was directly over the laundry room, I guess the washers were on spin cycle! What?? Not good, especially after I was informed that the laundry is open until 11 (this is the main laundry for the hotel) not guest laundry. I had images of the bed shaking without having to put on my quarter! I asked to switch rooms and was given room 201, end of hall. Carried my luggage down there, only to discover the toilet seat was not on, it was in the tub. Also room electrical not all together with covers off, looking around I realize it looks like its being worked on. Another call, finally I get room 218, opposite end of hall near elevators. This room seems good, a few things missing, like no luggage rack and only conditioner, but its okay, I will take it! At least the staff seems to want to help out and even offer me a discount.
Hotel lobby is plain but decorated tastefully, small sitting area, two computers, bowls of fruit, tv. Cooler area with snacks, indoor pool, with hot tub, patio area with grills and tables/chairs. Laundry room and exercise room (two treadmills and an eliptical with weights. All are new and clean. Splashes of color with neutrals work well. There are four floors.
I am in a studio room, walk into a compact but well stocked kitchen, full sized fridge with water pitcher and ice. Coffee maker, microwave and two burners with dishwasher and small sink. Kitchen is fully equipped, with a toaster, silverware, etc, which is in contrast to the no table (there is a desk and also a table top for one on the ottoman) and here again the colors are neutral, very modern, ikea like furniture with a few colors splashed here and there. Desk is well equipped with lots of plugs, lighting, comfy chair and storage, in fact lots of storage all over the room, large walk in closet, lots of drawer space, the king bed takes up most of the room, with a small space on all sides and a small two person sofa bed that would make walking tight if it were opened. Tv can turn to view from the bed or sofa, lots of lighting and the bathroom is quite roomy but plain, towels are large but not that absorbent. This is a no frills hotel that works well for the business traveler wanting they're own compact space, like living in a room at ikea. Basic shampoo, conditioner and bar soap in bathroom with lots more storage. Everything goes well together and is efficient in space usage.
This hotel is going to be an awesome stay when the staff gets all the kinks worked out. Right now I can see that they are working hard to get it all smoothly run, all the employees are very young and energetic. Very polite and the front desk and food staff are always asking how everything is and do I need anything.
One thing I noticed after being here a few nights is the temperature in the room is hard to regulate. If I leave the air on, it tends to get cold after a while, turn it off and switch to heat, and too warm, leave it all to off and it gets stiffy, seems I'm always switching from air at night to off or heat mid day, just strange! Also, my room faces the back of hotel which is to the freeway, and every morning about 530 I start to hear the traffic noises. As the traffic gets heavier the noise gets louder, maybe request a front facing room next time?
In the bathroom, nicely laid out and not oversized but roomy enough for one. I did notice that the tub does not drain well and the hot water goes in and out while showering.
Discovered a rolling table underneath the desk, possible eating table while sitting on the couch or bed?
Front desk staff is awesome at remembering me and always asking how my day is going, etc. take time to stop and chat.
Cleaning staff seems new to it all, room was never cleaned yesterday, stopped by to pick up some thing around 4pm, they were in the hall chatting. Asked of they could come in room, I said be out in 10, passed them on the way back out, said I was done in room. Came back late, room was never cleaned.
Very light cleaning first day, dust has settled over everything, coffee pot and tv are covered. Something is on bathroom floor, still there.....so they do need to work at some things still.
Overall great stay at new, modern hotel. Front desk gave me a nights credit for everything that happened which was very nice. I will definitely consider another stay when next in town.
