Description: Black Pearl, a rare gem. Our seafood and martini bar is the kind of locales sought after and then adopted for its casual charm and welcoming ambiance. From its inception as one of the few family owned and operated single location venues in the vibrant heart of downtown Ann Arbor, the idea behind Black Pearl Ann Arbor has been to reinvent the experience of "comfortable and cool" dining and lounging. Our bar and wait staff have been selected for what their parents have taught them to do . . . to welcome everyone with love.

We have enjoyed many meals at the Black Pearl. The fish tacos are always fabulous, fully of flavor and very fresh. On this evening we also had the tenderloin and crab Rangoon appetizers which were also incredible. The food is pricy, but we feel worth it. The atmosphere is very sophisticated and the staff is always friendly and efficient. We are looking forward to our next visit.

Dinner at the black pearl, awesome service and food!
Wow, my new favorite place to go for upscale food and atmosphere in Ann Arbor!
Visited here on a Tuesday night with 7 others, had made a reservation online beforehand. Welcomed and seated promptly, my first impression was just a dark, long room, low lighting, a long bar. The bar takes up one side if the room, with small tables (can be put together for larger groups) on the opposite side. Everything is minimal, but clean and chairs were comfy even thought they were on the tall side (I'm on the smaller side). We were seated in the back near the stairs (bathroom is located downstairs by kitchen). Noise level was high, and high energy. A guitarist played and sang (he was very good) at the front, we did have a harder time with conversation. But the service was awesome, attentive but not in our face, and the food! Menu is heavy on seafood, but also offers Kobe burgers and some pasta. Great offerings if vegan and gluton free items. Dinners ranged in price, with midrange probably close to $20, servings were enough to fill you but not over the top. I ordered the scallops and they were awesome, very flavorful! Everyone at the table enjoyed they're dinner, will definitely make this a stop next time I'm in town

The cocktails are creative; some of them are pretty good. The food was mediocre. Stop in for a drink, but go somewhere else to dine.

I like this place overall but I don't think the food is as good as nearby restaurants in Ann Arbor.
PROS - cocktail menu, fish tacos, atmosphere, outside seating, live music, late night wine specials
CONS - overall food so-so, slow service at times

Black Pearl is a wonderful place to grab a martini, glass of wine, or a beer. Tuesday and Wednesday nights offer live music. I prefer Tuesday nights because of the consistent gig of an Ann Arbor tradition- Laith. Laith Al-Saadi can play and sing anything. His performance is always top-notch. Of course, if you want to go to Black Pearl for drinks and food, you won't be disappointed. I personally do not eat fish or seafood (allergy), but they offer a fabulous kobe burger with mango salsa, and their famous fish tacos? They can be easily turned into chicken tacos. There are many other choices on the menu that are delightful too. So, if you come to the Black Pearl, I might see you there!
