The Sanctuary Inn is a budget hotel that over charges. We stayed here on Easter weekend and there were so many people in and around the pool on Friday night that we didn't bother going back. The hotel was loud and there were always cooking smells in our room.
We entered via a back door that had the same dirt and leaves in the entrance way all weekend. The hallways were also dirty the entire time we were there.
Our room was dated but beds were comfortable. It was nice to have a fridge.
Overall we did not enjoy our stay here and will try the Best Western or Days Inn next time. We actually left a day early because we really did not want to spend another night here.

Our indoor recreation center is always quite busy on the weekend. Most people thoroughly enjoy this area. It is by nature active and noisy with kids of all ages having fun in the swimming pool and with all the other activities in this area.

Our entrance areas are cleaned every morning, but dead leaves, etc. stick to the bottom of boots and are brought in each time a guest comes through that area. Thank you for your review. We are sorry that you did not enjoy your stay on Easter weekend.

Very nice clean room, friendly staff on the phone and in person. Stayed on a Friday night due only to availability but will visit again when I'm in the area. The lounge had entertainment but could not be heard from my room at the same end of the hotel. Do not be discouraged by the fact this is an independent hotel, it was as clean and well maintained as any chain.

It's not going to excite you but you will be comfortable.

Still feels like the Holiday Inn it used to be.

Everything about it was okay: bed, shower, comfort level. There was a fridge, which was handy.

There's lots of onsite parking and free WIFI.

Good location if you are exploring downtown Alpena and the Maritime Centre.

We needed a place to stay while my mother was at Alpena Regional Medical Center first in ICU then Hospice. We stayed the first night at regular room rates then the hospital gave us a form for a hospital discount. I have to point out Chad at the front desk he was very kind and helpful. There was another lady who was also very nice at the front desk also. Even the maids were kind. It was a sad trip as I lost my mother but everyone at the hotel was kind. They even advised us before we checked in the first night there was a pool tournament but we didn't hear any noise in the rooms, it was nice they let us know.

We ate breakfast every morning at the restaurant and the food was prepared perfectly and we especially enjoyed the marble rye toast. The orange juice is fresh squeezed. There is good coffee in the lobby in the morning you can take back to your room.

We also had dinner one night and the breaded walleye was delicious and we were pleasantly surprised at the wine prices.

It was a sad trip but the people of the Sanctuary Inn made it a little bit better.

Thank you.

Kathleen & Bob

Room Tip: The first night we had a double room which was perfectly fine. The next few days we had a king bed with a couch which seemed better for us. Both rooms were perfectly clean and updated.

Friendly staff. Clean & comfortable room w/ frig & micorwave. Nice to have adult swim only from 10-11pm. Large entertainment & pool area with space for families & groups to gather. Enjoyed breakfast in CW's Restaurant. Close to attractions & downtown. Would stay again & will recommend to others.
