The altitude and rich salty terrain in this part of the world has created the perfect conditions for raising free range lamb. It is lean and tasty. Nayjama makes the best Cola de Cordero (the lower back of the lamb) you will ever taste. A must try when you visit Oruro!

Very Bad service, as soon as we enter the place, the waiter chief shout to the kitchen about the only available menu, all the other diners were disturbed! Later a new waitress came to our table, she was quite rude when my mother asked the way on how a dish was prepared. The food was half of what asked for. Later, when we asked for our drinks the same waitress came but left us without the order because she was distracted by new arrivals and never came back, so we were left without drinks, we felt vary bad and decided to leave, when we asked for the bill they complained for the small order, incredible bad experience!!!

It was a pleasant surprise. We didn’t really expect to find such a nice upmarket restaurant in this little town. It’s not trendy and the décor is a little dated by western standards, but hey, we are in Oruro and there is really not much here, so coming upon this rather lavish building in the middle of the relative squalor was heartening.

The food is simple but good… just what we needed to keep us going for the long train ride to La Paz.The owner spoke good English. He told us he had been working on cruise ships for many years prior to opening the restaurant in Oruro. (see my photos). It is on the expensive side for Bolivia, but we thought it well worth it.

On the recommendation of 'The Rough Guide', which claims Nayjama is the best restaurant in Oruro we went along. What a disappointment. We chose the vegetarian plate - an assortment of vegetables, a quinoa burger, and two pieces of fried banana. Lots of variety, but the dish was boring - to the eye and the palate - and a little dry, no sauce - literally just small heaps of cooked and raw vegetables. At BOB 60 we found it to be overpriced and very expensive by Bolivian standards. When we were ready to leave, we asked the owner if he would call a taxi for us. He flatly refused, with an adamant 'no'. Reluctantly he added it would be 'very easy' to find a taxi on the street. It wasn't. We walked back to the hotel.

Had lunch here on a Sunday, so maybe that's why service was slow. Waitress wasn't friendly. Entrées were large and most around $50bs. Close to the train station.
