Lovely huge rooms with high ceilings and parquet floors with large modern bathrooms. The hotel was only two blocks away from the main square. The breakfast buffet was lavish and included real rather than instant coffee. There was also a small patio garden I never had time to sit in. Highly recommended. Central heating was turned on on demand.

I booked this for my last night in Sucre, for a little comfort and pampering. It is about three blocks from the main square, just opposite the Santa Clara church. The room was nicely furnished and comfortable with a big bed. There was also a balcony and access to a roof terrace (and a look-out for a great view of the city below). The bathroom was big and to my joy, it had a bathtub as well as a shower. Luxury.

The hotel itself has a courtyard seating area, a garden, and a restaurant. Wi fi is included and quite fast for Bolivia.

This review is long overdue. I've never wrote one before, but felt the need to here. I stayed here a few months ago after traveling on a grueling hike through the jungle to the lost city. I only intended on staying 1 night, but became sick when I checked-in and wound up staying for a week. During that week, the owner arranged doctors appointments for me, drove me for an appointment with a specialist and made me chicken soup every day until I regained my strength. The rooms are very nice and relaxing, and the staff is extremely friendly.

We stayed at the hotel in September following reviews on Tripadvisor. Overall we had a great stay and felt the hotel gave good value for money. We stayed in the garden room, which was a fantastic size with beautiful furniture. The only downside of the room was that it was often cold, particularly the bathroom, which meant that our towels didn't really ever dry out. We were given good advice (when there was an English speaking person on reception) about where to visit and should you stay on a Sunday then a visit to Tarabuco is definitely worthwhile. We would more than likely stay here again should we be fortunate enough to return to Sucre.

Room Tip: The rooms on the top floor have spectacular views so definitely book one of these!

This hotel is well located just a few blocks from the main square. If you turn right out of the hotel there is a small convenience store about a block up the street on the left.

The lobby is large and clean. I was given a ground floor room at the back of the hotel, one of the 400-number rooms. The room was huge and was more like a large suite. It had a large, very comfortable bed and sitting area with nice furniture. It even had a large private terrace.

There were a few negatives to the room. There are barking dogs on a nearby property near the back of the hotel. They are not right next door but somewhat close. A bit loud, even at night, but not terrible.

I had a key with a room number and the receptionist led me to my room. I later left the hotel and came back and realized that room didn't actually have a room number on the door, nor did any of the nearby rooms. So that was a bit confusing, I had to kind of guess at which room was mine and try the lock and fortunately I guessed correctly and did not walk in on another guest. Also, that wing of the property is very dark at night with no full time or automatic lights.

The bathroom had a tub with one of those swinging half shower doors instead of a curtain. There was no rubber stripping between the glass door and the wall, and showering caused the whole bathroom floor to get wet. The towels provided were a bit small and inadequate given the tendency to flood.

I don't meant to dwell on the minor negative aspects, overall it's a nice place with good sized comfortable well-furnished rooms, and decent free wifi. I recommend the place.

Attracted by this hotel top positioning in Trip Advisor’s Sucre accommodations I decided to book this property instead of the more expensive Santa Anna parador which was undergoing noisy and heavy extensions voluntarily NOT mentioned at time of booking.

Both check-in and check-out were performed politely with an accurate final invoice though most receptionists could not speak English, even basic! Our request for a quiet room was fulfilled until a noisy troop of vulgar bikers from Holland stopped over at the hotel for a couple of days ruining most guests’ tranquility.

The hotel is well located and Sucre city center is easily accessible by foot.
Both rooms and corridors were clean although housekeeper’s thick black hair was found a couple of time in the bathroom. The bathroom gets foggy each time you take a shower/bath due to the fact that there is no effective vent.
Another major structural issue is that thanks to a bad window design everybody taller than 5 feet can easily peep inside of rooms ruining any privacy and making necessary to lower the curtains at all times.

Free WiFi internet access was good and both beds and linens comfortable.

However, the Villa Antigua Hotel, unlike most other downtown Sucre properties definitively lacks the Old Colonial Charm and Spirit you are certainly looking for in this historic town of Bolivia.

The red columns, the white arches and the poorly vegetated inner and outer gardens, corridors and staircases give an overall feeling of an incomplete, cold and unfinished place. Even the brand new rooms don’t have a picture on their plain clinical white walls making you feel more in a Greek Island monastery.

When having breakfast everybody is murmuring because voices are echoing in this large room with the exception of the dining room door badly creaking.

My conclusion is to stay at Villa Antigua if you are on a business trip and elsewhere if you are a tourist.

Room Tip: Romms on third floor may have a great view

Dear guest,
Thank you for your recommendations; we will see how we can strengthen the use of English among the receptionists, although this is not easy in Sucre context. We are sorry that your visit coincided with the extrovert group of bikers, especially as you enjoy the quietness that actually is a more usual feature of the hotel, but these rare coincidences may happen in any hotel in Sucre or other places in the world.
Regarding the style, on our website we explain that ours is neoclassic, introduced in Sucre in the beginning of the 19th century, although not in a massive way. On the contrary, in the historic centre of the beautiful city of Sucre, the baroque style and Churrigueresque style inserted in the colonial architecture, is rather predominant. The qualification of the styles is definitely very personal and subjective, and in my opinion you can’t say one is better than the other, the preferences respond primarily to personal esthetic criteria. I like to mention that 6 weeks ago our hotel was the subject of an article in the magazine ECOs, in its architecture section, and shown as one of the best examples of re-functioning of the striking mansions of Sucre without losing any aspect of its structure. Also, when you look at other opinions expressed on Tripadvisor, you will see that most of them highlight in a very positive way the style of the hotel, the criteria used in the renovation and the integration of the neoclassic style with a modern one near to minimalism.

We spent several nights at the Villa Antigua on two different occasions. Both times we had a room on the top floor. All the rooms open to an outdoor balcony or terrace. The views of Sucre from the terrace are great, especially in the evening. The staff served us a late afternoon lunch on the terrace. Rooms are spacious and modern. Could have used a comfortable chair. Staff and owner very friendly and helpful. The location is excellent with short walk to the main plaza.
