“Anniversary/2nd Honeymoon Trip”
Reviewed August 20, 2013

My husband and I just visited for our 5th wedding anniversary and stayed in the Crowning Suite. This was our first trip together since our honeymoon and first B&B experience. Couldn't have asked for anything more amazing! The massages were perfect, the food was out of this world, and just the overall general atmosphere was serene and peaceful. It's the perfect setting - close enough to nice restaurants, beaches, or other fun activities, but far enough out of the cities/towns that you don't feel obligated to be on the go if you don't want to! The staff certainly makes you feel at home and is very accommodating adding special touches to every detail. As a very busy couple with very busy toddlers, we were able to reconnect again and that is an amazing gift for us!

Room Tip: The Castle Keep building is a more modern atmosphere and the Castle itself is a bit more true to its...

Dear Guests,
Thanks so much for your review. We're so glad all the details that we feel are important were important to you and that you could relax and reconnect with each other for your 5th anniversary. My wife and I have always been skeptical of the whole Bed & Breakfast idea . . . Castle in the Country completely changed our perspective! We always thought communal breakfast and lots of interaction with the inn keepers and other guests. The inn keepers, while extremely friendly and helpful, stay out of your way and you can interact with other guest as much or as little as you prefer. The breakfast is intimate as well, with your own private table and a great view.

We really enjoyed our time at Castle in the Country and are looking forward to getting back!

Dear Guest,
We're so glad we could change your perspective about B&Bs ...and maybe your review will help to change the minds of a few others who have the same worries about choosing us. We love it when guests help us debunk some of the myths about Bed and breakfasts, but mostly we love being part of great getaways.

My husband I stayed at Castle in the Country for part of our honeymoon two years ago and this summer was our third stay. We love The King Arthur suite with it's floor to ceiling window overlooking the pond and the soothing décor inside. This B&B leaves nothing to chance from the amazing breakfasts to the lovely gardening to the overall peace and tranquility they strive to impart. The private lake is wonderful as are the green farmlands viewed from the property. We will return again...and again....and again.

Room Tip: We recommend a room at the Castle Keep although the rooms are equally nice at the main house. The ad...

My husband and I stayed there for 2 nights in the Jewel Box room. We LOVED the grounds. We walked the trails to the lake. Sat in the gazebo by the pond and were visited by a very friendly cat. The breakfasts were tasty. We especially enjoyed the fresh fruit and wonderful scones. Wish I had the recipes. I only wish that we could have walked to town. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Dear Guest,
Thanks so much for your kind review of our Inn. Even in our coziest room, The Jewel Box, we're always happy when our guests get a chance to enjoy their time together while enjoying the grounds of Castle in the Country. . We've noticed that couples such as yourselves want to take full advantage of their time on the property and less $$ on the room so we're happy to oblige with our two classic rooms and their comfortable price.
Thanks for asking for the recipe for the scones that you enjoyed. We do have the Cream Scones on our Blog "Within the Kingdom" and I've asked Herb to add the Maple Oatmeal Pecan Scones as soon as possible so I'll send you an email soon.
As with everything, there are some trade offs for living in the middle of nowhere and out in the country, and one is that we can't walk to town, but after experiencing the peace and quiet that you and all of our guests experience here, we hope you will agree with one of our favorite sayings, "A Day in the Country is worth a Month in Town".

Great customer service, would definitely recommend this B and B to a friend. My Finance and I stayed during Christmas time and it was gorgeous, very festive and fun. They had Christmas treed throughout the property. It was like a fairytale with the snow setting on the Victorian home. I had a medical question and wanted to see a Doctor during our stay; the staff was discreet and helped me to find a local Doctor. They followed up with me, to make sure I was doing well. They were friendly and available without being present all the time. My Fiance and I look forward to going back in the Spring and seeing the property better, as I was ill we were unable to see most of the property. The Inn Keepers lodge was a pleasure to visit every morning and the food was delicious. The menu was set every day for you by their staff, but they kept a nice variety and the restaurants nearby were very reasonable.

Dear Guest,
It was so nice to hear from you, especially after so many months have passed by but it was so great to hear about your stay with us at Christmas last year. It says a lot about you that you were so kind in your remembering when you weren't feeling well and we are so glad we could provide service for you when you needed it. That's the best part about being in the hospitality business. We'd love to have you back sometime soon and we'll both be hoping you'll be able to enjoy everything to the fullest.

My husband and I stayed here for our 10 year anniversary in March 2013 for 3 nights. We stayed in the King Arthur Suite that has the big window in the castle keep. We think it is the best room in the place as we peeked in the other rooms when we were there. The scenery was breathtaking with snow blanketing the grounds. The have a little bird feeder that we watched in the mornings and saw all types of birds. We even explored the grounds all the way to the waters edge, they have snowshoes available that you can use. The room has a cozy fireplace, jacuzzi tub, double head shower, and comfy bed. We thought the breakfast was delicious each morning. We will definitely be back in the future!

Room Tip: King Arthur Suite is the best!

Thanks so much for reviewing our Inn and for reminding us about your wonderful stay in the Winter! So glad you enjoyed the snowshoes, watching the birds and enjoying the fireplace and the whirlpool tub in their chosen suite. Many of our guests spend a lot more time than they would originally think just enjoying the birds and all the wildlife just outside our windows. We believe that couples need a great getaway anytime of the year and we're just thrilled that you agree.
We'd love to have you back anytime...the birds are still at the bird feeder waiting for you.

Breathtaking inn. We walked the trails to the lake and lounged in the screened-in area. It was too chilly and windy on this rainy day to go on the water in a kayak or paddle boat. The quiet sounds of the woods and lake were relaxing! We also spent time in the screened gazebo at night listening to the crickets and bull frogs, and petting the outdoor cat, Miss Abbey.

Our room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. Being on the third floor, the central air didn't cool the room adequately, so we simply opened the windows. We noticed that the other room on our floor had a window air conditioner.

The breakfasts are gourmet. Thick-cut bacon. Freshly made scones. Wonderful omelette, quiche, and cornmeal blueberry pancakes.

The staff is friendly, but not intrusive, always willing to answer questions and offer suggestions.

If you are looking for a romantic getaway in the country, add this luxury B&B to your list.

(One minor suggestion: Add a chaise or two in the outdoor seating areas like the one by the lake.)

Dear Guests,
Loved the description of the time you spent in the woods and by the pond and lake on site...we agree with you about the amazing healing power of nature and hope others who read your review will take advantage of the same peace and quiet that you describe so beautifully. No matter what the weather the screened gazebo and the screened house at the lake are medicine for the souls of couples:-)
Thanks for letting us know about the A/C problem you experienced the first night. We had the repair guy out the same day that you mentioned it to us and were able to get that fixed right away so we appreciate you mentioning it to us.
It's such an honor when our guests recommend us to others...we promise to do our best to measure up to all the wonderful things you've experienced and...for everyone else that your review has encouraged to add us to their list, we'll keep working to provide all the details that you enjoyed.
Hope you can come back soon.
