A fellow cruise member organized the tour. It started small but ended up as 4 vans of 12 passengers each. Cruise port was a mess. Our van was the last to arrive, about 40 minutes late. Guide and driver seemed unsure what to do (my wife and I speak Spanish). After being stuffed in the van for 30 minutes meandering around the hills of Valparaiso, we'd had enough, and got out of the van. We then had a grand time on our own. I should have known that too many people in a van makes for a lousy tour. To be fair, those who continued had a good time, especially at the winery. With plenty of elbow room, and a good guide, this could be enjoyable. Next time I'll organize my own tour.

First off, we would like to ask the readers of this review to first take a few things into consideration:

1. We have cancellation and satisfaction policies. If you leave the tour before because you decided that doing a group tour was not for you, then we have to charge you regardless, because another couple could have enjoyed of what was, according to the rest of the group, "a great outing". These people left and handed the guide a 20 dollar bill, and didn't bother to say why-- had we charged them beforehand, they would probably had stayed on and I would have given them a refund for not having a great day (something they didn't allow themselves to experience, because they were in such a rush). So, they are complaining about something they didn't even pay for. Then they gave the excuse that the bus was too small, and that the guide didn't know what he was doing; however, the rest of the group thought otherwise.

2. This is South America... even if we wanted to arrive very early (keeping in mind that they had an 08:30 pick up and they arrived at 07:45), the people at the door will not let us through until they are ready to let us through. Also, the Police don't care if we are outside and our clients inside waiting. The POLICE often stop tourism vehicles outside, and make the guide and driver get out of the vehicle, inspect the vehicle, and when they have to do 10 inspections, they don't care if we'll be entering the port late; they just want to make sure you will not be travelling with an unmarked or unlicensed vehicle. Since we had 4 buses that day, they stopped two to check paperwork, making one enter at 08:35 and another at 08:40. With that being said, the last bus (which this couple was on) left at 08:40.

We've received negative reviews in the past saying we were late, but it's because people don't think that there can be an accident outside, or a police inspection, or that our driver was assaulted, or that our guide had a medical problem before arriving. When we explain these things to them, people still go and review us badly, not even thinking of the amount of work we put into the rest of the day in order to provide them with a great experience.

Our group of 8 used Al Ramirez's tour company ARC Tours Inc. to help us when we visited Santiago, Chile in March 2016. We couldn't have asked for a better experience! He tailored our tours to our needs and schedule and was easily accessible by email as we made our plans. His guide picked us up at the Santiago airport upon our arrival and we had a wonderful comprehensive overview of the city of Santiago, including a lunch at a local cafe that immediately immersed us into the Chilean culture. On our last day in Santiago, the same guide ( Milo with driver Daniel) picked us up at our hotels and we headed toward the port of Valparaiso. Along the way, we stopped and toured a wonderful winery, visited the town of Vina del Mar, and then explored Valparaiso before boarding our cruise ship. Everything was well planned and timely and the guide was well versed in his knowledge of the area. We would not hesitate to use this tour company again if we ever have the opportunity!

It was tough to leave our stateroom after 41 days of cruising South America/Antarctica.....but alas, The Seabourn Captain and Crew bid us farewell and our luggage was hauled off to the dock. On the upside: There was Al, waiting for us on the Valpariso dock with a van and a smile to transfer the six of us and all our luggage to the airport. Being the wine expert that he is, he cheered us up along the way with stops at 3 wineries in the Casa Blanca wine region. Delightful! We bought a case of wine to ship home at one of the wineries, had lunch on the beautiful terrace of another, and enjoyed the tour of Olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and wine production at a family owned vineyard. We eventually had to deal with the airport but were feeling pretty fine with all wine! Thanks Al!!!!!

We were a party of 5 that arrived in Satiago from Boston for a 2 night stay before heading to Valparaiso for a day before boarding a ship for a cruise around Cape Horn. We booked in advance and were very pleased beginning with our airport pickup. Our guide (name eludes me) was very professional as we started a city tour before going to the hotel and then he picked us up again the following day for a country & wine tour. Our day was a very enjoyable day. The following day we had another guide to take us touring on our way to a hotel in Valparaiso. It also was a great trip. We would all highly recommend using this company as the guides were excellent and the rates for all tours were fantastic. There were also choices to make in what we all would like to do & the guides definitely guided us in our choices. Our only regret was that we did not meet Al personally to tell how happy we were with his service. Thank you Al and all who drove and guided us in this beautiful part of the world.

Al Ramirez Wine saved my entire trip to Chile.
His organization and knowledge of the regions, wineries, hotels, and restaurants was incredible. He organized a 10 person wine and lunch tour one day, then at a moments notice, arranged for a private wine tour and transfer to Valparaiso for my husband and me. His recommendations were spot on for everything we did. From perfectly romantic vineyards to awe-inspring picture taking opportunities and top notch wineries in between. He found it all. He set the standard high for our trip and we will be back because of him!
