“great stay..couldnt be happier”
Reviewed November 21, 2011

Was nervous about booking the Amwaj Rotana as on the last holiday had a bit of a nightmare with the hotel. However, took the the chance and absolutley FAB choice. First, the location is fab. Jumeriah walk is basically your equivilant to Rodeo Drive in LA. Lots of fab boutiques and great resturants and cafes. A great vibe at night and pleasent to walk along during the day. Late afternoon there is an outdoor market along the walk with great Ariabian delights and cool henna art. It is such a great family and couple environment with the hubbub from the cafes/resturants and people just venturing out for the night. And the best point is that Jumeriah Beach is a 30 second walk from the hotel :) You do have to cross a small road as there isnt a direct link from the hotel to the beach but it really isnt a biggie. Why pay £200 extra for a hotel that has a private access to the beach. Doesnt seem worth it to me!
Secondly, the hotel rooms and decor are fab. Loved the lobby area, with its gigantic flower piece and lovely seating area. The room was even better. On arrival we were told that we would be in a partial sea view classic room. (We were a little disappointed as our travel agent had told us it would be sea view), however when we got to the room the view was fab. Could see the sea and a great view of the Palm Atlantis. So don't get disheartened if they tell you its partial sea view. The room was FAB. Spacious, clean and a great balconey too with table and chairs. It didnt feel at all as if I was in a classic room. Bed was so comfortable, shower very spacious and clean and lots of extra towels and pillows. Loved it :)
Breakfast was included in our 3 night stay and it was a very nice breakfast. Staff where friendley and courteous. Always welcoming you and showing you to a table. You are offered tea and coffee and then of course you can help yourself to the buffett breakfast. In my opinion a great vareity. You had pastries, omlette bar, cerals, fruits, freash juices, contienental with some added extras such as salmon and chicken, all different kinds of cheeses and youghurts, basically enough to keep you going. Breakfast is very important for my husband and I so we were very happy and the best thing is its until 11am so you don't have to get up at the crack of dawn. And it doesnt run out. They keep topping up until the very end.
Finally the hotel staff where FAB. They really helped us out as much as they could. We arrived very early morning to dubai and check in is not until 2pm. The staff did say it would be a bit of a wait until a room would be avaliable but they were so nice about it and got us a room by 12pm. We had some trouble with a booking we had made at burj khalifa and they were more than happy to help by calling them up for us and allowing us to quickley use there internet free of charge. We booked our desert safari via the hotel too and it was a fab night. Had an amazing time, the compnay Xtreme Adventures was great. The only slight setback to the hotel as all other reviews are saying is the elevator system. But it isnt so bad, it was a small sacrifice for a FAB hotel. And in there defence they do provide seats near the lifts on your hotel room floor incase its a bit of a wait :) That is probabley why I didnt give it 5* and i didnt experience the resturants in the hotel or the poolside area. However did walk past and it looked very nice. I am already thinking to go back to Dubai in March and Amwaj will defo be on my list at the very top of hotels to stay at. Loved it.

The latest hotel on the "Walk", there is very little to find wrong with the hotel. We stayed for 10 nights and ate in for most of the time, the food was of a very high standard especially the Tapenyaki which is a must if you like entertainment with your food. The three chefs are very tallented in their use of the tools of their trade and they turned out delicious dishes. You do not have to be staying in the hotel to go to the Benehana restaurant and it is well worth putting on the list of things to do. The lifts get mention in many of the reviews, we were on the 20th floor yes, occasionly we had to wait a couple of minutes but then we didn't have a train to catch. The rooms were cleaned to a very high standard and the beds were really comfy. The bathrooms were of a high standard as one would expect in a five star hotel. The staff were very good from the meeters and greeters to the management, they all gave the impression that they were pround to work for the hotel. Would I stay there again? if I ever go to Dubai again certainly. There was one niggle and I am really nit picking I never had a warm plate in any of the restaurants. This is a top class hotel well worth your patronage

Room Tip: The higher up you are the quieter it is.

Located along the Jumeira Beach Residence (JBR) walk, you can't do much better in terms of location. JBR is a very lively place - beach, restaurants, cafes, shops. . .and a real feel of luxury. And that's the right word to sum up the Amwaj Rotana. The lobby has a very sleek modern design and this continues into your room. Our room had a balcony and great view of the sea. The beds were comfortable; and as you'd expect in Dubai; we had all the extras - flat screen tv, kettle, complimentary bottled water/tea/coffee, robes and slippers. One downer was that the room didn't have wireless intenet . . .it had a wired lan connection, and internet charges were a little expsensive. As far the spa and fitness club, I was satisfied. The gym had all the modern equipment and the pool was clean and had a nice atmosphere.

Whoever designed the hotel made the calculation that 3 tiny elevators would be sufficient for a 25 storey hotel with full occupancy. To top up this unfortunate calculation there are no public stairs connecting the lobby with the breakfast area on the 1st floor which adds to painful elevator waiting time. Elevator systems control seems odd, it is not unusual to have a group of 20 people in the lobby waiting for a ride to the popular bar on level 2 but with all 3 elevators operating on the top levels of the hotel simultaneously.

The breakfast buffet offers fair quality food items but no pork selection is available which is available in most 5 start hotels in Dubai. The breakfast buffet sometimes gets overcrowded at tourist breakfast time, but is generally pleasant at business breakfast hours around 7 to 8 am.

The gym is spacious and nice but lacks in ventilation and is kept too warm, apples are sometimes available after exercise but have often run out. The cardio equipment features TV but unfortunately has only a few Arabic channels and CNN, whereas the rest of the hotel has a good selection of international TV stations with English speaking movie channels, BBC and Discovery.

No wireless in the rooms, only available in the public areas.

The swimming pool is in shade of buildings for most of the day during winter months but the public beach is just across the road.

The hotel is located right on the main drag through JBR, featuring muscle cars, taxis, utility vehicles and onlookers driving in a never-ending slow parade, especially at weekends, a traffic light near the hotel makes for loud accelerations and honking horns 24/7 which is audible on all floors in the south wing of the hotel.

Room Tip: Some rooms have interconnecting doors which reduces sound proofing to the adjacent room.

The hotel is very nice and the breakfast buffet is amazing but... The pool only get a max of 3 hours of sun a day due to location so if relaxing at the pool and getting sun is what you want,, forget it. The beach is a short walk however so I kind of overlooked this. BUT, the one thing I cannot forgive in a high end business hotel is poor internet service and Amwaj's internet is pathetic and they charge over $100/week for this less-than-DSL service. One other negative is the $10 Peroni beers but hey this is UAE so okay.

On the upside, the staff is AMAZING. I got to know the housekeeping guy really well over my 5 week stay and he, along with all the staff, are so nice. And yes they all speak English so no issue there.

The JBR traffic can be taxing at times but it is a great place for people watching. Everything from thong bikinis to knock-out evening wear, along with everything inbetween. It doesn't really get hopping until around 2200 so take a nap and stay out late! Dubai is such an awesome city, I love it and hope I get to come back.

We got a very good deal from the tour operator, and for that price I would certainy recommend it (around 150€/night incl. breakfast).

We went to to one of the standard rooms with side view from the ocean, and it was very nice. In fact it is quite an open view, it is just not front view. .
The location is very good for beach holidays, and there are plenty of restaurants and bars in the boulevard. You can also easily take the metro or a taxi to the malls and to the city. Taxis are very affordable, a ride to the city is around 15€. Metro is cheaper, but it takes quite long.

However: the pool area is quite small, so it is definitely not a hotel to spend the whole day. They provide towels for the beach, but they do not have their own private beach, so no sunbeds. We asked for the transport to the malls and they told us that THERE IS NO FREE SHUTTLE SERVICE TO THE MALLS (although this was clearly written in this web page).

We did not use the spa because it was separated for women and men (which was expected anyway). My intention had been to take a facial treatment while my husband took a massage, but it turned out that they did not have facial treatments for women (only for men!!!).

One negative point is that they charge you for the WIFI even in the public areas, and it is not cheap. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants in the area with free wifi, but they do not announce it so you have to ask if they have it or check it your self. Starbucks has it, and there are plenty in the area.

They made a reservation for us for high tea in the Burj al arab hotel, which was great, but they could not provide tickets for the Burj Khalifa tower, so you'd better arrange that in advance before your trip (most of the times the tour operators can arrange that for you, that is, if you are travelling with a tour operator).

They also have a small travel agency in the hotel for excursions. We found they were a bit expensive, but the truth is that they can accomodate to your needs perfectly, so no complaints. We took the dine cruise from them and it was, as mentioned, expensive, but very nice.

The only thing we did not manage to do is to go to the camel races... I still wonder if my husband would have made it, had he gone to ask on his own...

Room Tip: As high as possible, though they do not even let you choose...

Dear Guest,

Thank you for staying at Amwaj Rotana Jumeirah Beach-Dubai on your recent visit to Dubai.

I have noted all your comments and I am pleased to inform you that each of your points were certainly taken on board for us to provide the highest standard of service and facilities to our guests.

Likewise, some of the old neighbouring hotels have private beaches and that is why they are able to provide their guests with beach beds and umbrellas. Being a new hotel we could not have a private beach and still waiting from the Dubai Municipality for the allocated area in the beach which they have promised for our hotel guests.

I want to thank you for taking the time to share your review on TripAdvisor and for giving us your valuable feedback which we will use to provide better services to our future guests.
