This is a perfect hotel for a quick stopover (or longer!) - just 10 minutes in a taxi from the airport with mammoth mall attached; you couldn't want more if you're just passing through. We had a quick two night stay here; wished it was longer. Staff were wonderful - we rocked up a 8am and they not only checked us in 6 hours early without a quibble (whilst feeding us fresh dates and coffee) but also upgraded our room as they had capacity to do so. All the staff were incredibly polite and helpful. The room (a deluxe room) was incredibly comfortable; amazing view (straight through from the luxury bathroom!). Bed was massive and very comfortable; curtains were black out; plenty of space for luggage, etc. Only (very small) things that let the room down were the complimentary toiletries which didn't match the quality of the rest of the experience (but were still satisfactory) and the air conditioning was a little noisy and damp smelling; but it worked perfectly well and didn't disturb our sleep so a small thing really. The breakfast buffet was of a very high standard with everything you could want - but beware, it doesn't come cheap at AED110 per person! It's well worth getting a B&B rate. Still, as we booked this hotel on BA airmiles, the whole experience was perfect value for money!! The pool is a good size with a lane for laps which was great. There are plenty of sun loungers and a lovely area with tables and comfortable lounges under the palm trees for relaxing. The hotel is also linked to the Intercontinental next door and you can wander along if you prefer the look of their pool or poolside bar. There is a walk way that goes right around the Festival city area - and maps in the room for 3 and 5km runs (probably not advisable in the summer!). The Belgium (Beer) Cafe on the 5th floor had great live music playing while we were there - but again very expensive. We sat outside on the patio and enjoyed a cold beer; the view over the water was great but the car fumes from the nearby bridge were pretty choking and we ended up moving inside. The Festival City shopping mall is all part of the same complex with all the usual stores plus lots of cafes and restaurants along the canal. It's open until midnight Friday and Saturday and we ended up wandering across to get dinner at the food court here, saving a fair amount. We didn't visit the fairground (yes - there is a fairground!) but there were plenty of families around (perhaps too many for our liking!); it seems a popular place for local families and tourists alike. The area is easily accessible by taxi to other parts of the city, but beware swindling drivers who ask if it's your first time in Dubai as you leave the hotel - they're less curious about your travel plans than wanting to know if they can take you the long route; and long route he did... we ended up paying 3 times the fare! Taxis are cheap in comparison to everything else in Dubai, but still... All in all, couldn't recommend this hotel enough.
