Just returned from a 6 night stay at the Crowne Plaza Dubai Festival City and we all had an amazing time.
Location- This was our 1st time in Dubai and so we did not know what to expect. I was a bit worried that this hotel would be too far out, but we booked based on the reviews on here and found it to be a great location. Dubai is a vast place so you need to get taxi's or public transport everywhere anyway, so I am not sure it matters where you stay. Taxis were very reasonable and we managed to get around and visit all the places we wanted to see.The hotel is located near the airport on Dubai Creek. The hotel is attached to a shopping mall which has some great shops and places to eat. Festival City area is lovely to walk around with greta views over the creek. You can change currency at the mall and there are pharmacies in the mall too.If you want to be near the beach this is not the location for you as it is a 15 minute taxi ride away. We are not beach people so this did not worry us and the pool area was great so didn't really need to go to the beach.
Pool- lovely pool area. You can use bothe facilities at the Crowne Plaza and InterContinental. We loved the pool areas, jacuzzis looking out over the creek, no trouble getting a sunbed and excellent staff. There is a sauna and steam room in both hotels which is easily accessible from the pool area. My husband used the gym at the InterContinental and said it was good.
Room- we registered as priority club members before our stay and where offered a free room upgrade to a Creek view room. Lovely view over the creek and very comfortable beds. The room had everything you needed to ensure a comfortable stay. Loved the little touches like the pillow menu and sleep kit.
Food and Drink- we had breakfast included which was very good. Very nice selection of fresh fruits, smoothies, cereals, meat, cheeses, smoked salmon and hot selection. We also ate at the Belgian bar on teh first night - lovely food but alcohol is expensive. Would recommend a meal at the Anise at the Intercontinental- this is a buffet style restaurant and was amazing. We ate our way round the world in one sitting and would say the quality and service was outstanding for a buffet. There is a very nice outside bar at the Intercontinental which has light up chairs. We had a drink there on the last night and thought it would be really expensive when in fact it was cheaper than the Belgium bar.
Weather- didn't know what to expect with it being January but we had amazing weather all week. It was the perfect temp of around 27 everyday. We managed to sunbath everyday and got a great tan. I am not sure I would want to be here in the summer when we are told it can reach 55 degrees!!
Staff - all of the staff we met were very polite and helpful and couldn't do enough for you to ensure you had a fabulous stay.
We were lucky to be there when the Dubai Shopping Festival began and had a wonderful firework display just outside the hotel. There was a laser and light show on the creek every evening and it was never evry busy so we had a very good view from the hotel, bar or restaurants near by.
Dubai - we wanted to do a few things when we were here and managed to achieve them all - swimming with dolphins/ tea at the Burj and Burg Khalifa- see reviews. We booked all of these from the UK before we went and I am not sure we would have been able to do these if we had tried to arrange when we got there as everything seemed really booked up.
All in all a fantastic trip and will be going back to Dubai at some point in the future I am sure.
