The Caracalla Spa at the Royal Meridien Hotel was unfortunately a disappointment. While the massage as such was very good and I would highly recommend the skilled Balinese lady who did it, the spa experience as such was a let down.
After having registered at the spa reception I was escorted to a waiting room. This room is very small and allows for two people to wait for their treatment. The therapist meets you there and does the health check with you. If someone else is waiting with you in the room, the other person (male or female) will get every detail of your conversation. In this respect I was not really eager for the guy sitting opposite me to know where I have health issues or stiff muscles...
From the waiting room you are directly brought to the room where the massage takes place. You undress there, no changing area.
As already mentioned the massage as such was very good. Only the drilling during the massage was quite annoying and not really relaxing. My therapist was professionell enough to stop the massage and go complaining about the noise but it did not help too much as the drilling continued.
After the massage you were brought again to the waiting room and were offered some water. While sitting there my therapist showed up again offering hair oil and some other lotion to buy. I always think it is a cheap touch if therapists are made to sell products to you after the massage.
All in all given that this is a five star hotel charging five star hotel prices for their massages, the massage experience surely does not match the stars and lacks standard amenities to be expected in this hotel range.
