My uncle took me here for a meal at the end of May and being of Greek-Cypriot heritage, we always get really excited when eating at a Greek restaurant. We went on a Monday night and it was 90% full! We quickly got seated and offered some drinks and the lightly toasted bread soon followed. The decor is great! Really simple but rustic and I loved the oil, vinegar and dried oregano on the table. The first thing that caught my eye was the fact that there was no mezze on the menu. Personally, I think all Greek restaurants/tavernas would benefit from a selection of mezze for a set price. That being said, the menu looked very exciting. Baked feta, stuffed squid, calamari and Greek salad for starters as well as chicken, beef and lamb gyros, kleftiko and grilled fish. I was surprised to see no dolmadakia (vine leaves) or moussaka (aubergine, mince and bechamel sauce) on the menu! They have a moussaka burger on the menu which sounds interesting but we were told by friends that the classic moussaka should have been on the menu by mid-May and it wasn't. There's also no pork licence here so couldn't have any classic Greek pork dishes. These three dishes are an integral part of Greek cuisine so I was a bit dubious about what was to come.
My uncle chose a few dishes for us to try; stuffed squid with dill and yoghurt (great concept but was lukewarm and needed a bit more depth of flavour) calamari fritters (these were GREAT!) baked feta (fantastic) and then lamb gyros for mains (lamb was perfectly cooked but the pitta was a bit dry - not the best gyros I've had!)
Unfortunately we had no room to fit in my favourite Greek dessert - loukoumades :( but would love to see galaktoboureko on the menu aswell.
Generally the food was good but the service needs work. It seems like they've got double the amount of employees that they need and they're all rushing around. It would be a lot smoother to train the front of house staff properly so that they can do the job more efficiently which would make it better for the customers.
Reasonably priced, food is generally very good, service needs work. Would go back in a few weeks to try the rest of the menu and see if service is improved.
