“A little hidden Arabian gem”
Reviewed April 20, 2013

I loved staying at XVA Art Hotel, it is set amongst the alleys within the Bastakia Quarter which has loads of character (it can be a bit difficult to find) The rooms have nice decor as well as character, and they open out onto a great courtyard. Really quiet too and great to be able to walk out of the Quarter and be near the river, souks & abras. No TVs in the rooms - which I didn't mind but you could access wireless Internet (free of charge) in the rooms and courtyards. The little cafe on site sells lovely mint lemonade which is totally addictive! would definitely stay again.

Hallo DamonL635,

It was a pleasure to have you as our guest and thank you for this personal review.

In some publications, our hotel is considered as Dubai's best kept secret. The charm includes in finding the hotel itself. We made it easier by sending a direction map to the hotel from anywhere in UAE prior to the arrival date. Within the complex itself, part of the fun, you should find our hotel between winding alleys.

I heard about the Mint Lemonade addiction from some regular visitors. The good thing about this addiction that you do not need to go to a rehab.

Happy traveling!!

XVA is a very special, stylish place in Dubai's historic Bastakiya district. XVA is housed in a superb former historic home that has been converted into an utterly charming guest house, together with a trend-setting gallery that is at the heart if Dubai's thriving art scene.

I spent 4 days in the elegant deluxe room, at a fraction of the price anywhere else. A friend stayed in a smaller courtyard room. The rooms are impeccably neat and clean. You fall asleep to the scent of jasmine in the night air, and wake to the Call to Prayer. This is Authentic Arabia. You can stroll the ancient lanes of the Bastakiya , with its open historic buildings. XVA also makes a perfect base for exploring Dubai, via the dirt-cheap water taxis or the metro.

Life at XVA revolves around the breezy inner courtyard that offers a small but excellent menu. The Arabian breakfast is delicious and an amazing deal. The mint lemonades are addictive. Lunch and early supper offer excellent local dishes at low prices. On the upper level is a terrace with atmospheric seating and an unbeatable view.

The XVA staff are friendly, welcoming and hip. I was immediately offered a double-shot latte when I arrived early and tired after a 12-hour flight.

I have been traveling to Dubai for 15 years - and I can tell you that XVA is a rarity. It will not have the glitzy amenities that you can get at 21st century hotels, but you will find peace, refreshment, and authenticity. That's priceless.

Room Tip: Spring for the upper rooms for the terrace seating, breeze and a spectacular view.

was a big pleasure, happiness and a privilege staying at the XVA, unfortunately staid there for only one night and wished I could stay for more, moved to the ARMANI Hotel at Burj Khalifa what was a real disappointment.
XVA is a place to not miss in dubai for people who love life with spirit soul and aroma.
the service was great, the team was fantastic, a small big family... XVA is a real home away from home. anyone having the opportunity to say at this place should do it.

thank you very much for giving us the possibility to live real, to live old, to live in a place with past, with history.

Warm Regards from XVA Art Hotel!

Dear Aicha_53,

Dubai is the perfect place in the world to do hotels hoping. All kind of hotels, designs, locations, endless choices and experience. I am so glad that our hotel made it to your list.

We offer our guests a "back to the past" experience with a modern and contemporary art twist. With a strong team and full attention to details, the spirit and soul of this heritage site remain intact.

Aicha_53, come back and stay again with us next time, perhaps at the same time. Special Event: we shall make a birthday lunch special for you at our cafe.

All the best.

Awesome hotel. First we stayed in a newly build modern hotel in Marina district of Dubai but we also wanted something more authentic, cultural, cosy and romantic. XVA is all that! Located in the old part of town. This is the place where Dubai takes its routes from. You can learn a lot of history and culture from the nearby museums and souks. Rooms are specially designed and are very comfortable. There is a nice terrace where you can chill in the evenings. Staff and service are super nice. You get a real feeling of true hospitality here. There is also a very nice cafe that serves good quality vegan food, which is difficult to find around the town.
It all depends on your needs and what you are after for in Dubai but for a short stay we would recommend it to anyone.

Hello Maxim777,

"The feeling of true hospitality" is one of the highest compliments that a guest ever wrote to us. Thank you from XVA team.

You both truly had a perfect mix of vacation in Dubai. The über trendy beach resort style hotel in the marina district and unique heritage style boutique hotel nearby the creek. Now you can say to everbody that Dubai has it all.

May I suggest something for your next visit? Stay in one of many luxurios desert resorts and go on a trip to Musandam in Oman. They are supposed to be very romantic and unique.

All the best from Dubai!

I stayed here for one night with my boyfriend and i have to say we made a right choice coming here. Dubai is full of sad 4/5 stars Hotels that can be anywhere in the world. This small boutique Hotel run by friendly staff is something particular that gives you a hint of what Dubai can really offer in terms of places..far from the opulent center, surrounded by a labyrinth of small streets in a cultural environment with small ethnic shops everywhere, two mosques and a perfect location right in front of the river, 10 km from the airport and a walking distance from the biggest suq. Don t expect luxury or big spaces. You will find a small and cozy courtyard, stylish small rooms and a very friendly service instead. The place itself is worth a visit. If you don't know where to go, this place won t let you down.

Dear Zhufan,

We are delighted to be "the right choice" of accommodation for your one night visit to Dubai. The places of interest that the area offers are by far surpassed many location in Dubai.

Thanks to the old majlis style building, we can offer a unique atmosphere to our guests. Although our rooms are not spacious, we offer the extended space outside the rooms. Most rooms have outside seating area. This is a kind of hotel where you can enjoy the outdoor as much as the style of the room itself.

We suggest you staying for more days in Dubai next time. So much more to discover. For any assistance or queries about the hotel and Dubai, you can always contact me : iwan@xvagallery.com

The XVA hotel is a very charming and peacefull place making a huge contrast to the big hotels in modern Dubai. Sitting in the courtyard, you will forget time and traffic... The rooms are stylish but rather small for the price.

Room Tip: A room on the first floor will be quiter and you'll have more privacy.

Dear Dani58000,

Thank you for your kind review.

Our rooms are stylish and not spacious, yet we offer an outdoor seating area. Some have peaceful views on the courtyard, some have a view over the Al Fahidi neighbourhood (formerly known as Bastakiya)

Our price are indeed rather steep during your visiting period due to the mild weather and conferences in the city. Try to come back in other months, the prices would be somewhat lower.

For your next holiday or stop over in Dubai, do not hesitate to contact me directly at iwan@xvagallery.com

Have a nice day!

A complete contrast from the brash impersonal style of the rest of Dubai. Completely restored old arabian-style house with mud walls, and shady courtyards (but modern bathrooms). Very friendly and helpful staff and manager. Had a very peaceful night here - literally not a sound, even though my room was I was in Rm 4 - giving straight onto a lovely courtyard with an ancient tree. My room had a Campbell's soup tins art installation, a large photograph and other original prints. It's simple and comfortable: bed, chair, wooden table, hanging space. Good shower. Lovely breakfast with fruit, yoghurt, arabian bread and omlette cooked to order. It is in the middle of the old quarter of Dubai (there's not much left), in a maze of narrow lanes with other houses open as museums, art galleries, restoration centres, and little restaurants with comfy chairs nearby. You are 10 mins walk from the Creek, the old Souk, the National Museum and the bustle of the boats. A bit further to the metro. Make sure you print out the map and take it with you as taxis can't drive up to the door (there's no vehicle access - but it's less than 5 mins walk from the main streets).
