“Affordable hotel for big groups”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

A very basic hotel apartment. The room size is good. I took one bedroom apartment. Rooms are clean, bathrooms are also clean. Food is very average. The buffet breakfast is very ok with not much options. The service is very slow. You need to call them multiple times before they service you. I had problem with the electricity every day in my room. I used to call the help desk every day to get the electricity back in the room. The microwave was also not working most of the times. Finally they placed the microwave in my room to make it work. They do not replace the bed sheets everyday :(. The location of the hotel is good with easy access to all means of transport, departmental store, tube etc.

Room Tip: If you choose the hotel, you can take any room.

Great hotel, fantastic location. Rooms are massive, include a kitchen, microwave, toaster, kettle ect. Perfect for hotel for big families or big groups. Very cheap compared to other hotels in this central area. Less than 5 minutes walk from metro station.

But, staff weren't very friendly or organised. No free WiFi.

The worst experience i have had in my life!!! I hated it as the rooms were dirty, smelly and nasty. Toilets were broken. No hot water at all and the food was terrible. I went with my family and will never ever return there again, save your money and g o somet=where else.

Grand Midwest Hotel Apartments - Bur Dubai
Hotel was very basic. Bed sheets were not changed everyday and blankets were very old and would make you itch at night. We had to ring housekeeping to ask them to change the sheets after 7 DAYS! The beds were very creaky and would make a lot of noise when you move at night. The sofas in the room were absolutely filthy and worn out we had to put sheets over them to sit on them it was not fit for somebody to sit on and were very uncomfortable. We had to call down to room service several times to ask for small things like toilet rolls and clean towels as they were not always given when the room had been cleaned. Our washing machine was also not working and would go non stop for many hours despite complaining many times no replacement was given. Roof top swimming pool was dangerous as there are many cracked tiles around the pool and some were even moving and had sharp edges my child hurt her foot whilst playing. This hotel is not worth the asking prices and if I could give it a rating, it would even qualify for 1 star.

This was definitely the poorest hospitality level we have experienced in Dubai hotels. The staff are definitely not on the ball when it comes to hospitality and courtesy.
The restaurant takes the accolade for being customer unfriendly. The staff attitude is definitely not meant for those to interact with guests. You need to show a level of understanding of client's specific needs without taking "i do not care you sort yourself attitude". The breakfast is not a favour to the Guests. It is a service that is owed to them. It is despicable of you to act like you only run the show, and your needs are not our business.
Front office reaction time to requests? Lucky if you are able to get them to attend to you before you ask at least twice.

Positives:

Convenient location, very near metro station and shopping mall.
Very spacious room, with plenty of kitchen facilities, and opposite supermarket so easy to cook if you want to.
Staff helpful at times, and fixed all problems in room (broken telephone, cold shower and no towels) quickly

Negatives:

Room was dirty. Towels also old and frayed, and strong smell of curry in the room.. Most of the furniture stained and generally felt dirtier after taking a shower than before.
Website deceiving. Hotel promised many things they did not deliver on e.g. The free airport shuttle advertised in the brochure does not exist, they try and charge you AED100 when a taxi will take you for 20. The pool is also a lot less glamorous in real life than it appears in the photos, it is very small with around 5 sun loungers available, which aren't the cleanest of things so bring towels if you do go up.
Bed uncomfy and lumpy pillows.
Staff couldn't find our booking so froze AED1000 on card until they could.. Not the most friendly of welcomes!

Overall it wasn't what we expected, and the whole place just felt a bit dodgy and unclean. Was happy to have breakfast included though, and Internet charge was AED15 per hour which could be worse.

Stayed heere with an all male group in November 2012. We had a three bed apartment (room 706) which was spacious and comfortable. Service was good, including reception, breakfast (where they served us after the advertised 10 am 'curfew' on the first morning) and the 24 hour room service menu was very useful. The beds were comfortable and the aircon seemed to work ok.

However, this was an all male group and we had decided to risk it by booking cheap city centre accommodation. We expected some, shall we say, limitations and did find them, they were:

1. Bathrooms a bit tired and tatty with showers not working as well as they might.
2. Not quite as clean as you might like, but blind eyes were turned.
3. Kitchen not particualrly well equipped and the gas hob didn't seem to work.

However the pluses outweighed the minuses in our view and we would book again. It is a good location for exploring Bur Dubai and all in all very good value for money especially for a group sharing.

There is no welcome pack of basic food but there is a small supermarket directly opposite the hotel. There is also a roof top pool and a gymnasium which we didn't use, but they looked ok.

All in all I would recommend this hotel but perhaps not for a family trip or a romantic break.
