“Good business hotel in city centre”
Reviewed July 30, 2011

This is a good business hotel right in the city centre. Have a great day room tariff for those want for few hours only. I haven't seen this offer in most hotels around the world. Rooms are done in arabian decor which looks pleasently good for change. If have spare time then good for shopping around and Dubai museum is right opposite the hotel. It has few restaurants inside which are not bad. Good valur for money hotel.

Room Tip: Try to avoid rooms at the front

We stayed 2 nights before travelling back to the UK. We arrived at about 2.00 am and the booking in was very swift and the cases arrived quickly to our room. We were at the back of the hotel and the view was nothing and unfortunately it was noisy at abour 4.30am.....people being called to prayer but as we were not staying long we overlooked this. The hotel has different restaurants and the Sherlock Holmes bar is very nice. We had a meal in the Indian restaurant and were treated to great food and great entertainment........a really lovely last night in Dubai. The staff were friendly and businesslike. The little chap on the door dressed in traditional dress is very amusing and helpful....Would stay again but would ask to be at the front.

The hotel is situated in the old part of Dubai. You can really enjoy the culture of Dubai .Next to the Dubai museum which is brilliant and close to the Creek where you take a boat taxi to the other side of the Creek or you can have it for little bit more money just for your self going along the Creek The hotel is really close to the airport .They are offering a transfer for £25.00 but it is cheaper to get a taxi from the airport which will cost you about £5.00.Just have to go to the taxis counter and then you have to queue up for one. As there is almost no other transport the taxis are very busy and you will find you will have to wait some times for a taxi but normally it will take you about 5 -10min to get one. There is a Metro as well which is running above the ground and travelling from one side to the other you can see a lot from Dubai.
About the hotel the rooms are in traditional Arabian style, the staff is brilliant, service amazing, everybody smiley and helpful. They try to satisfy all your needs. The swimming pool is quiet small but ok. The hotel offer a shuttle bus to the beach (20-30min depended on traffic) .It travels twice a day (morning and afternoon) and you will need to book it in advance in order to reserve seats. In the hotel you can find Indian restaurant (nice food little bit expensive) with live music and dance, Chinese restaurant (like the food). The Sherlock Holmes Pub is really nice with a live music and also pizza place (pizza was delicious). The spa area is really really nice and reasonably priced.
We are really happy with our choice. It is not a luxurious hotel but we had everything we need for our stay in Dubai and also the price we paid for it was very very good. Went to Dubai Marina once but I founded over build. I definitely would go back again to Arabian Courtyard Hotel&Spa. But if you prefer to be next to the beach you might consider somewhere else.

We visited this hotel for 4 nights in July 2011. Checked in late at night - no problems; and also had a late checkout - they have a separate waiting lounge for this. We were upgraded to the executive rooms on the 7th floor without asking which was nice of them to do. Took about 20-30 minutes to get there from the airport.

Nice waiting area- and a free shuttle to the beach in the morning that leaves at 0945.

We had a roomy double room. There are traditional Arabic style furnishings in the hotel. And the view from the side we were on (front of the hotel) is directly over the museum and a dhow that has been 'moored' next to the fort. Bathroom was fine- although perhaps a little on the small side (shower unit was over the bath, so no separate shower room). Comfortable bed and mattress.

Lights are controlled from a control pad next to the bed; this also has the clock/alarm.

Small swimming pool- there is a Spa as part of the hotel but we did not use this. There is also a club attached to the hotel - we did not use it, and a couple of local people did ask if the hotel was noisy because of this; can't comment as we were on the 7th floor so missed any noise from this.

We had an enjoyable stay- the only criticism would be that their breakfast area is on the small side and can get crowded if you do not get there early - and the buffet was OK, we thought that there could have been more choice of fruit and cereals; maybe they are constrained by the space. The supermarket/restaurants that are so close and convenient all help reduce costs ! The hotel gives a couple of small water bottles every day- and there is a minibar that you can use to keep these cold !

This is a great location for the Meena Bazaar area- 5 minutes walk away. This is where anyone of Indian/Asian origin will feel at home ! Many tailors/fabric shops/jewellers from the sub-continent. The hotel has a small 24 hour supermarket round the corner, a Standard Chartered ATM on the corner of the hotel. Indian vegetarian restaurants very close by. Pizza restaurant is on the corner of the hotel, and there is also the 'Sherlock Holmes' pub on the Mezzanine floor !

Staff were helpful - and they have a small waiting area outside for taxis which the doorman uses a whistle to flag down !

Overall a decent 4 star hotel.

The Fort/Museum are directly opposite. the hotel Bastiyika area is a 10 minute walk away- and the Creek is also about 10 minutes walk - where you can pick up a water taxi for 1 dirhams to cross the creek.

We thought that many prices in Dubai were comparable to other major tourist locations- food and drink remain cheap but we did not buy electronics/clothes, which we thought were cheaper in the UK ! Loads of choice (too much !) for eating out in all the Malls. All price ranges available.

Taxis are now all metered with uniformed drivers- it was about 60 dirhams to Mall of Emirates from the hotel (around £10). Note that if there are more than 4 of you, you will need to wait for a 'family' taxi as it is not allowed for standard taxis to carry more than 4 people.

We also used the Metro to get to a couple of places- easy to use, runs every 10 minutes or so, and 5 dirhams for one ticket.

Very hot as you would expect in July (38C + ) and needed to pop into the airconditioned shops every so often to cool down. Remember that Meena Bazaar mostly closes down from around 1400-1600/1630. Opens around 1000 and closes around 2200.

Room Tip: Aim to get higher floor to avoid noise; rooms at the front have better better views.

Restaurants: variety & quality of food at all hotel outlets was excellent. Indian Restaurant (Mumtaz Mahal) = some of the best indian food I’ve eaten worldwide. Pub food (Sherlock Holmes Pub), superb, with great service. Poolside food & Pizza restaurant - all were great quality and value for money
Location: convenient to get a water taxi to the souk, not so convenient for the metro
Comfortable beds

All staff were pleasant and helpful

Wellness: Good staff, reasonable prices, nice treatments. Could be improved by soundproofing in the treatment rooms, so you're not forced to listen to inane conversations at reception between staff whilst trying to relax. Treatment beds could have flowers or something more appealing underneath the view, rather than an old stool.

Bathrooms: I had to ask several times for items to be fixed (towel rail, shower head, electric socket – all very “old”. this was done with great efficiency, but still an incovenience. And why do rooms have a bath with no taps??? Takes a long time to fill from the shower - very strange!!
Ratio of room size: furniture size. I had to rearrange the furniture in my (exec) room so I could pull the chair out to sit at the desk. Arabian furniture is HUGE and doesn’t go in small rooms.

Executive club lounge: simply not worth the extra money. Breakfast (again can’t complain of the quality of the food) but the availability, variety and general service was poor. Evening drinks – forget it, you will get a warm beer or a warm glass of white wine, empty plates where food once was, and no space to sit because of the LARGE furniture taking up all the floor space.

Would I stay at this hotel again: Yes if I was travelling again as a single female traveller, due to the value for money, the reasonable pool, variety of restaurants, and that “at home” feeling. If staying with my partner again, probably not – we’d look for somewhere a little more modern & convenient to the metro.

Stayed for pleasure in the middle of a business trip and thought it was the best value in Dubai. The room was more than adequate with a good TV service but the bathroom was small and outdated. Nevertheless both were spotlessly clean. I liked the option to have the bed linen and towels for more than a day - it may reduce their costs but it also reduced my carbon footprint. My room was at the front with a better outlook although the mosque opposite did provide an early alarm! Well, this is the Middle East so, what's new?
I paid the small extra amount for the use of the executive lounge and it was so well worth it. It also provided a break from the room. Coffee/tea and canapes were available there throughout the day so the paper could be read in peace and comfort. The buffet breakfast was also in the executive lounge (much quieter) and the internet in there was very good. There are a number of restaurants in the hotel but around the corner is a vegetarian Indian restaurant that is cheap and superb. If it's fully booked, have a take-away or eat outside with the locals. They'll also help you chose!
The hotel has a great, friendly bar with draught beer......there are usually good offers but the music provided by a live group was too loud on my two visits! I used the spa and had a great massage - there is a good choice of treatments and it is also a clean, safe service with high professional standards. I used the pool and that, too, was very well maintained with the appropriate information easily displayed. Downstairs, just off the foyer is a small cafeteria with a branded coffee service, good snacks and British newspapers - well, the Daily Mail!
The hotel is in Bur Dubai, very near the river and the Abra crossing (only 1Dh). To get there you pass the museum, (more than worth the visit) and go through the tiny passages of the Indian quarter with their brightly coloured stalls. That joins onto the trading area for the Pashminas, tee shirts etc. The traders in that area are a nuisance in trying to flog their goods.
If you want the night life and the big malls, then use the metro - the nearest station is a short, cheap taxi ride away. Otherwise, the taxi trip to get to those places can be a little more expensive. Yet, weigh that against the value and price of the hotel and it is more than worth it.
Would I go there again? Most definitely, even with the small bathroom!

Room Tip: Check the internet for their better prices.
