“NOTHING TO SEE HERE!”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

There was only one "low point" during our recent trip and stay in Dubai ... the Gold Souk. To be quite frank, you are bombarded by touts from the second you step off the bus and venture with the guide into this area that isn't attractive in the slightest. If you are after sophisticated gold products, forget it, as most items are very "kitch" and the sheer quantity on show was overwhelming. The touts selling everything from fake watches to drinks and T-shirts are relentless and quite intimidating. Don't take up any offers to pop down one of the many alley ways to visit their "shop", as it is a fairly silly thing to do and will put yourself in a position of buying to get them off your back. We couldn't wait to get back on the bus and get out of this area.

“Never seen so much gold in my life!!”
Reviewed October 25, 2012 via mobile

I found it such a fascinating place. Got a few lovely bargains too. Yes you can barter. Be patient with the vendors calling out to you. I would say though, I found it intimidating as a female by myself, so if you're travelling with someone take them with you

“Bargains in the side alleys”
Reviewed October 19, 2012

Wow what a market! We wanted to buy a wedding band for my fiancé and we were overwhelmed with choice. We saw a huge range of prices and styles and the vendors were helpful with sizings and were able to source different sizes from other shops. The vendors were all willing to bargain but not too pushy either. My fiancé decided on a titanium ring which we found in a silver vendor down a side alley. We bargained a little and paid what we felt was a decent price.

There were plenty of vendors wandering thru the souk selling water and drinks, and plenty of people touting their fake designer bags and watches. They didn't hassle too much and once we said "no thanks" they let us pass by without further hassle.

We enjoyed the souks, they were huge and a bit exciting. Our kids were a little bored (5yo and 6yo) but all the vendors were very welcoming to them, often offering us water and chatting with the kids.

There were also a few souvenir shops selling Dubai tourist trinkets, which were super cheap - way cheaper than in the shopping centers or tourist gift shops.

I think it's quite an interesting place to visit and if you are keen to buy some gold then you will find it here. Combine with a visit to the Spice souk which is walking distance.

“So shiny thta you end up with a headache :)”
Reviewed October 1, 2012

This is the place that most women will fall in love with. The gold souk is huge there is the old one and the new one which is a a/c building.
You can spen the day lookin at stuff and see gold trading. You can also visit wholeslae stores for gold.
DO NOT buy anything from wandering people who claim they can give you something with better price. Always buy from stores with certificates.
Ensure that you negotiate price always start very low one third and then you can bargain.

Visit many stores b efore buying even if you bargain with each of them.

Be careful they also sell many conterfeit things such as coco chanel or choppard.

“Don't go alone and alway barter!!!!”
Reviewed September 28, 2012

Be patient and don't to into the first store you see. It's a massive place and you will find what your looking for.
Never pay what they ask for!!! These people mark up there price by almost triple so make sure you start off low.
Be prepared to be harassed but people trying to get your business. If your after nock off handbags, watches, sun glasses etc. you will find an abundance amount. They might ask you to follow them to an upstairs apartment so they can show you all there stock, don't be scared some of there best merchandise is hidden away. But in most stores they have some hidden away waiting to show you.
