“We keep going back!”
Reviewed January 15, 2013

This is my favourite place in Dubai. We only live half an hour away but we've stayed there 3 times in the last year. We often visit for the day and use the pool (you can buy a day pass and there are 2 for 1 offers in The Entertainer Body book) and go to the Al Hadheera restaurant in the evening (2 for 1 offers in The Entertainer Fine Dining book) . This is a must for all visitors to the UAE. It combines an amazingly cheesy but brilliant show (complete with belly dnaders, whirling dancers and goats, camels and horses) with a wonderful buffet out in the middle of the desert. The hotel itself is lovely. It feels like a real Oasis in the middle of the desert and it's a great break from the bustle and hustle of Dubai/ If you drive there, take a map of Dubai and the area. The first time we went, we didn't have a map of Dubai, just a map with scant directions to Babs and we got completely lost for hours. Once you know the roads out of Dubai; it's very easy.

The pool area is great and very large. The pool water does seem quite chilly in the autumn although the hotel claims to heat it. If they do, they don't heat it very much. Having said that; it's superbly refreshing in the hot spring and summer months. The rooms are lovely; very evocative of Arabia and really lovely. Some rooms are interconnecting but instead of having internal interconnecting doors, they both have front doors into a little hallway which then has its own front door. This means that you and your husband can have real privacy whilst the kids are next door but you know that they're safe. The breakfast is great. I've never eaten in the Indian restaurant although I hear good things. The brunch that Babs did on Easter Day was excellent and enjoyed by kids and adults alike. The only slight negative is that when I took my parents to Al Hadheera, we went to the rooftop bar for a drink first and didn't get served for almost half an hour. They were very busy and it is rather dark, but that really is no excuse. The staff are great and very willing and eager to help and, unusually, the little hotel gift shop has lots of things you'd like to buy and it isn't a complete rip-off.

This is one of my favourite places and I'd recommend it to all visitors and residents of the UAE.

Second stay at BAS, this time New Year's Eve and 1st January. Service impeccable as ever, staff polite and attentive but not overbearing. New Year at Al Hadheerah, their 'desert restaurant' was brilliant: great entertainmentand the most amazing array of food and drink...all tinged with an Arabic flavour. I would recommend this hotel again and again and even though we live in Dubai, we plan to return in the future for a relaxing break.

4 adults and 3 kids stayed here in December.

Overall an amazing stay from the moment you drive up to the entrance, all the way to check out.

Upon arriving there, you are given some incredible tasting dates stuffed with cashew nuts and pistachios which were Devine. You are then escorted to your room. Ours was on the grund floor and had a view out over the desert. Rooms are very well equipped and the bathrooms are so rustic and full of character. All toiletries are offered and the waterfall shower is a must.

The swimming pools are out of this world. The shallow kids pool is massive and has nice waterfalls etc with a dedicated life guard. The landscaped grounds are lovely for a nice walk.

The evening restaurants and bars are a great place to visit too, especially the friday evening brunch which is outdoors and comes with some top notch entertainment.

There is also the chance for camel rides and falcon shows.

A few negatives:
- the rooms will be too dark for some as there is no overhead light, just some lamps which don't give out much light.
- there are way too many flies/ Mosquitos in the rooms and if you are dining al fresco
- very expensive food- over £100 for a bar lunch for us
- far out from central Dubai.

Overall, definitely a place worth visiting, but not perfect by all means. Would I go there again? I would say yes!

We had a sort visit in this fabulous luxurious hotel-spa in the evening. They have live music and very good food. Beautiful surroundings in the middle of desert. In the winter time it can be quite chilly though and it would be nice if the outside restaurant had some quilts available for the customers.

We stayed at the Bab Al Shams resort from 17th - 19th December for a stopover on our way to Australia. We wanted to stay somewhere a little bit unique and Bab Al Shams was a brilliant choice. Our flight arrived into Dubai at 7am and we arrived at the hotel a little before 9am. Even though check in wasn't until mid afternoon, when we arrived we were informed that our room was available immediately, which was most appreciated. On arrival, the reception staff gave our 6 year old son a gorgeous soft toy camel which he loved - a really nice touch. The hotel was immaculate and very tastefully furnished. Our standard room was very big (king size bed with separate bed for our son) and the bathroom was a very good size too. Large oval bath, fabulous shower, lots of towels plus slippers and bathrobes - all perfect. The minibar was excellently stocked and prices were reasonable for a 5* accommodation. There are several dining options to choose from including a pool bar/cafe, Indian restaurant, Italian restaurant, Arabic/international buffet (for dinner and breakfast) and a fabulous bar with a good happy hour! The rooftop bar was the perfect place to watch the sunset over the desert - coloured lanterns, sumptuous cushions etc. Bab Al Shams is very family friendly and offers a variety of activities including camel rides, archery, falconry displays, table tennis, giant chess and mini golf. The jewel in the hotel's crown is definitely the infinity pool area - it is massive and gorgeously presented. Staff are on hand to provide complimentary towels and fruit and the views of the desert from the pool area are unforgettable. We only spent two-and-a-half days at this resort but I wish we'd had a longer stay. We will most definitely be back. Thank you so much to all the staff who made our stay extra special!

This hotel has the best staff I have ever experienced. A wonderful place for those who want a peaceful place to relax, very different from the busy Dubai. Very good swimming pool, by the desert. The rooms are big and comfortable.
It is worth a dinner at the Al Hadeera, where you'll be in touch with the arabic culture, also the food is varied and quite good.
The camel ride is a good idea, specially if have kids.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the ground , if possible. No stairs.

50 min from Dubai you find this very nice escape to the desert....
The hotel public areas are very nice with a labyrintic arrangement with lots of haleys. Rooms are rustic style totally fiting the landscape, beautifull and very confortable (the bed is amazing).
We chose all inclusive and it turned to be of very good value for money. Massage we got was around 500 AED + dinner in the desert with show 400 AED + transport to & from Dubai 150 AED + lunch + 100-350 AED for 1 activity (prices per pax)..
The pool is beautifull and has lots of beds, but somehow the water is freezing (you only see children playing there) - probably in summer it is ok with the hot weather.
The food (incl. breakfast) is very good also, as most of our experiences in Dubai.
We enjoyed very much the dinner experience at Al Hadheerah (included in all inclusive) with great food and service. One of the best e.g. In terms of organization in Dubai. The place is for tourists and the show ok, but it is a good program for an arabian night.
We liked the desert tour by jeep.
The desert landscape is not a dune typic landscape like the one we got more close to Abu Dhabi... It is more plain and less with sand mountains....
The personnel is all very nice, the reception service is great but, agaín, as referred in other Dubai reviews, other personnel trainning and organization has still a long way to go (like in lunch restaurant). Nevertheless you start getting used and relax about it....
