Stayed there 5 days for a long weekend. Great place which appears to be very remote but still close to Dubai. Very clean. Great rooms. Nice service. I would come again. They recently changed management though.

The hotel really deserves its five stars: the common areas and the rooms are beautifully decorated in Arabic style; the massive swimming pool is excellent even during the summer; the staff is very friendly and effective; the buffet breakfast was fantastic; and food by the pool and at the Indian restaurant, Masala, was also very good (a little overpriced, though).
The price for the stay was more affordable than other similar resorts, and we were offered some extras: room upgrade, a cake and late check-out. Location is also a plus for a weekend trip, since it is very near Dubai.
Two things were slightly disappointing: 1) three adults cannot stay in the same room (we had to book three rooms for five people) and 2) the activities are a little pricey, less varied and less interesting than those of similar hotels. That being said, we didn't care so much, since the pool was so perfect for a short break!
Overall, Bab Al Shams is definitely one of the best options around.

We went to Bab Al shams for one night, during our honeymoon. When we arrived we loved the scenery. Although it's clearly designed to look "authentic", the hotel, atmosphere is nice. However, looking at the service and amenities it's definitely NOT a 5 star hotel. The very much recommended diner show was aweful!! Horrible food (and I love Arabic food) and constant attempts from various people to sell you stuff... You feel soo pushed. At around $ 100 per person for the diner we felt very much ripped off, which spoiled our stay overall. So enjoy the quiet surrounding, but don't go for the show. Maybe this is all because the owner has changed (used to be part of Jumeirah group and I can't imagine them delivering such a poor quality)

Room Tip: Book through Expedia.

Bab Al Shams is a beautifully built hotel, when you get there it feels like an oasis away from the hustle and busltle of the busy world. When you arrive you are greeted with great hospitality and the staff make you feel very comfortable.
The rooms and bathrooms are very spacious, this was brilliant for us as a family of four in our room.
The Poolside is very beautiful and there are shaded areas for when the heat is at its maximum. When you are at the pool the pool staff come round at regular intervals with ice cream, cold drinks, cold spritz for the face etc, you really feel looked after.
All the hotel staff are very friendly and even when you just go past someone, you are always greeted with a smile.
The breakfast and dinner is absolutely amazing.
The Room service is brilliant and there is never a frown from the room service staff. They even did so much to steralized my one year old bottles.
This is a first class hotel where the staff are so friendly and make you feel at home. It is a beautiful getaway.

We reallty loved Bab Al Shams, the staff are attentive, the setting is lovely and the facilities are superb. When we arrived at the hotel there was a lovely cake waiting for us in our room for our wedding anniversary and my husband also arranged for some flowers to be brought to the room. The pool area was perfect for during the day although it did get quite busy and sun lounges were reserved from quite early in the morning. The restaurants to choose from were great in the evening. It was really nice to wonder out into the desert and watch the camel rides at sunset, so peaceful and relaxing. Would thoroughly recommend this hotel.
