“Lovely little spot”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 22, 2013

Bastakia is one of my favourite places in Dubai, away from the glitz and glamour associated with 5* hotels and skyscrapers. You get a nice taste of the old Dubai (with views of the creek) and can go spend some time at the fabulous XVA gallery.
Its also very close to the Dubai Museum so if you're up for a cultural experience then this is definitely a good place.

“Must visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 14, 2013

This is a great area to explore, full of history and cultural significance. When you want to take a break from the high rise living that is Dubai, this is a great place to disconnect.

“loved it”

Only a small place but worth the visit and its like old dubai, plenty of history and old building with long narrow alley ways leading to other buildings.

“Great tour with local historical houses”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 6, 2013 via mobile

We enjoyed walk this place with at least spent about 2 to 3 hours here!

Beside the old houses, there are many artist who passionate with their innovative ideas can easily found here!

Beside looking at their art piece; there are local guest house is found here! E.g. The orient guest house. Not too bad stay here for a night with local houses.

Overall great experience here! While we walking around, the local al-batakisya host invited us to sit in a tea tent with a taste of Arabian teas. Great and warm people found here

“A quaint afternoon wander”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 4, 2013

We weren't 100% sure about going here because it appeared a little small, and quite out of the way from the other things we had planned for the day, but I am really glad we made the effort to head over to Bur Dubai for a lovely wander around this old quarter of Dubai. Although the buildings have been restored, the architectural design is authentic, and the art that many of the houses display really brings the place to life and gives you a taste of the Emarati culture. There are also some lovely 'souk' style shops selling beautiful herbs, spices and oils at very reasonable prices.

There is allocated parking for the quarter itself, and the buildings cast a lovely shade, making it a refreshing stroll by the creek.

We also had some fresh juice and date cake in the Arabian Teahouse Cafe, which is in the quarter itself and was an activity worthy of doing in and of itself. The cafe is housed in a beautifully planted outdoor courtyard - perfect for some refreshments and a chill out before regrouping and venturing further afield!
