I recommend taking a stroll at twilight, to see the sun setting. Melodious call for prayer and Arabic architecture will remind you of Aladdin's Agrabah. A nice change from ultra modern Dubai structures!
Bastakia is close to textile souk, and its is a place where you can get a cheaper bite, but prepare to pay in cash and haggle!

This is the area next to Dubai Museum. It is rebuilt to portrait the old Dubai in the last centuries. It consists a mosque and a number of houses to display exhibits for various purpose. I came across a coin museum, construction museum, art quarters and etc.

As each of the house is about the same, therefore visitor shall check on the main door to check the contents. Some houses converted into an art quarter

My hotel was only a few minutes away, so I had a quick look around before work. The museums I noticed weren't open at the time and as it was my last day, I didn't have the chance to go back for a better look.

Like a lot of these "old" houses around Dubai, the buildings here have been restored to look brand new - it was quite interesting watching some of the builders finishing off the walls.

I can't say it gave much of an impression of how things were 100 years ago, it was all too clean and new for that, but it was interesting as a display of traditional architecture and as it is free to walk around and doesn't take long, I'd still advise people to have a quick look.

Al Bastakiya is also an area where you see and feel the old way of life because of all the traditional shops and narrow streets. Well restored and preserved for the future generations to see how people lived their lives and how life was.
