Visited many times over the years and it is now looking good. Nice way to see how the people lived in the past and there are hotels/ restaurants to stop at and have a drink or food.

In the old Dubai, there is this area called Bastakiya and it is a neighbour built as houses and shops were used to built in Arabia. For those who would like to see something different than the enormous buldings and glamorous hotels it is a place to go.

The houses are beautiful. If you´re hungry, go to Local House (in some old guidebooks called Basta Art Café) on Al Fahidi street. Nice court yard with sofas etc.

Nicely done reconstruction with some galleries and restaurants, following the style of narrow streets and adobe (mud bricks). There are pigeons around and birds chirping on some of the old trees. Being next tot he creek is a good place to take a walk and wonder around.

I along with my family visited this place on 24 Dec, by taking a 90 min. walking tour conducted by Sheikh Mohammad Center for Cultural Understanding, Dubai. The place does offer a glimpse into the past of Dubai, (few traditional houses, architecture, wind tower system to beat summer heat [which despite our repeated queries was neither explained nor shown from inside] etc) however, a large portion Bastakia area is now converted into art galleries, some curio shops, and over-priced restaurants. The place lacks that feel that should be associated with heritage site. There are coin and stamps museum also in Bastakia but when we had visited both were deserted with very few displays.
Children may not enjoy this place at all as there is nothing to attract their attention. An trip of maximum 60 minutes is sufficient to see this place at a leisurely pace.
