Great place with allot of history in how dubai started and who used to live their and the well know families who used to live their.
You can see the villas from inside how simple it was.
There are raverage esturants around there but might be over priced due to the location.
Go i winter and avoid summer time because you will be walking out side to see around.

The Bastakia Quarter is an effort to preserve the old culture and heritage of Dubai. It's a treat for all visitors as you get to have glimpse in the olden ways of life. The al fahidi fort the oldest part of dubai is converted in a museum which is a MUST.Brilliant, bastakia quarter itself is marvellous. The other areas which are at walking distance are the gold souq, spice souq and the abra taxi station. The bastakia cafe is pleasant. You can explore other sheesha restaurants nearby. All and all a different old world dubai charm in the present day of sky high bling dubai. The metro is very nearby the bastakia quarter, a 5 mins walk.

If you're looking for great photos of what you think an old Arab town might have been like, here's the place. It's quiet and picturesque, and there's a great view if you can find a way to the rooftops. Bring your camera, but dont forget to soak in the views!

Dubai is brash, loud and very very artificial, but Bastakiya takes you to a time long lost in this city. Sure, the complex is mostly artificial too, but its often deserted and offers a peaceful distraction to the whirlwind that is Dubai. Meander down the lovely alleyways and find hidden nooks and crannies for great photos. Be warned, there's no food or drink to be had here, so bring some or you'll have to wait!

By all means enjoy the malls, Wild Wadi and all of the other attractions of Dubai but try to find time to treat yourself to a short visit here.

In the Bur Dubai area around the Dubai Museum and close to the Meena Bazaar, this collection of traffic free streets contains old merchant houses with their characteristic wind towers. The universal odour of shisha is replaced here by oud and frankincense from the spice shop on the corner. Bougainvillea cascades into a narrow lane, glimpses of the brilliant white Farooq mosque with its arches infilled with perforated decorative screens (jali) appear around shady corners.

A coin museum, stamp museum, art gallery, calligraphy shop and the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding share this quiet spot with rooftop views over the Creek.

Forget the noise and traffic and lose yourself here for half an hour, it's well worth it.
