My wife and I visited the Gold, Spice and Perfume souks on our recent trip. Really nothing special. The gold jewelry is geared toward Indian/Middle Eastern tastes. The spice souk was very pushy and the initial prices quoted were ridiculous. If you are looking for nice jewelry and a good price I would recommend going to the Gold and Diamond park. Clean and modern. My wife wound up getting a very nice diamond bracelet there.

The Gold market is interesting for those who haven't seen such shops before, but it felt quite ordinary to us

I expected to see a lot more ‘authenticity’ in the spice market but instead it was a series of shops of all sizes, all fronted by hustlers who tried to shove anything down your throat from dates to saffron to tea. The gold soul is worth looking at, just once, to see the stuff that you will never buy. All in all, nothing more than what the re Jews tell you.

After visiting the Spice Souk, I had reservations about going to the Gold Souk, but it was more hassle free and not as much pestering from the merchants. Walking down the street was a real eye-opener with huge displays of over the top gaudy gold pieces. I couldn't believe how large some of the rings, bracelets, and necklaces were. Who could/would possibly wear some of those pieces?

Nevertheless, it was quite interesting and a fun experience. I'm not sure how you would know the quality of the gold or even if it was real in order to agree upon a price. My motto is buyer beware. Fun to look, but I wouldn't touch it.

We visited the gold and spice souk as a part of the orient tours city highlights tour.

Lots and lots of bling here, amazing smelling spices, cashmare pashminas, shoes, perfume, saffron and lots and lots of camel inspired take home gifts. Worth a look and a good chance to get your bargaining and barter skills happening.
