Just one street- windows filled with gold. Small shops, crowded, the rates seemed excellent- but for someone like me who is not familiar with the rates- was unsure on how much to bargain. Apparently the gold price is fixed, but the making charges are the area that one has some flexibility.

Located in Deira in the old part of town, the spice and gold souks are located close to one another, in what is a maze of small shops. There are interesting sights to see. Sacks of exotic spices and more gold jewellery than you've ever seen before. Buying these are another matter, however. Wasn't sure if the spices and gold are not adulterated. If you do intend to buy, compare prices first.

The souks should be part of your visit around old Dubai, the area along the Creek. You can do the Al Fahidi Fort, Dubai Museum, Bastakiya Quarter, abra rides, and the souks on the same day. They all cost very little and are worth visiting.

Good experience, we walked through from Baniyas Station.

Tip just keep walking past street sellers offering fur coats and watches. Went to government approved gold shop. We did not have enough durhams to pay full price, they gave us an excellent discount.

I usually love the 'old town' and souks but this is not a good example. There is more than the usual hassling but it doesn't seem in good humour like a lot of souks, there is a slight desperation there that quickly turns to heckling and rudeness. Be aware if you go.

a great place to visit, dont be tempted by the ofer of cheap bags and watches - so many hassle you ! the gold is amazing but unless you are sure of what you are doing may be worth just looking and not getting carried away
