Visiting the Souk Al Bahar takes me down through memory lane - of the old arab souks that we frequented as children and the whiffs & scents of oud & spices. However, the flamboyance is not the same. The traditional architecture is awesome, but the hint of elegance and 'modern' is also quite palpable. I went there to visit a kiosk that was holding something that I had reserved for me, but apart from that my quick walk to the kiosk and back had my eyes popping at the prices of some of the items on sale. I was definitely enamoured by some of the beautiful artifacts, souvenirs and embroidered kaftans, but honestly, those price tags were ridiculously extravagant. If you're looking to see a modernized view of arabian architecture and 'souq' style, it's a good bet, but if you're looking for genuine souvenirs that will not rip your pockets off, there are better places in Dubai for that..
