“Afternoon tea”
Reviewed June 11, 2013 via mobile

Had the afternoon tea at the sky view bar. Unforgettable experience. Views of the palm and the world and the best food I've ever tasted. Filled both of us up despite not eating all day. Expensive but very much worth it!

“Afternoon tea at the Skyview Bar”
Reviewed June 8, 2013

Booked for afternoon tea from the UK. Bit expensive, about £99 but you have to do it!!

We arrived just after 4pm for our 4:30 sitting, you are allowed in 30 minutes prior to your booking to take photos and have a look around. Queue to get through security took a few minutes but once there it is a wow factor. Took photos of the entrance and then went upstairs for the elevator to the Skyview Bar. Greeted and taken through to our table within seconds of arriving. Waiter explained what the tea consisted of and took our order of champagne or a champagne cocktail. We had our champers which was followed by berries and cream. There were chocolate covered dates on the table. We were told we could have unlimited tea or coffee throughout the tea. There was plenty to chose from too. Next course was a beef dish which melted in your mouth, Then came the cakes and scones with cream and jam and refills of tea and coffee if required. This was finished off with a sorbet and a small box with four chocolates to take away at the end of the meal.

It was quite busy but the service was good and the waiters made it feel special. You were able to take photos from the windows, especially once some of the people had left. We took about two hours but you were not hurried out and once leaving the Skyview Bar were not hustled out of the hotel. We sat and watched the fountains for a while before leaving.

This was a one off experience and one I wouldn't bother repeating but enjoyed the experience of seeing the hotel.

“Afternoon Tea in the SkyBar..... Make your own fun! Enjoy!”
Reviewed June 8, 2013

For 460AED you may expect the world but we expected just to have some fun and see some truly outrageous surroundings. We arrived in a taxi for our 1pm sitting having read all the previous reviews. Very helpful was one persons review about checking in as early as they will let you as you are seated in the order that you check in. We arrived just after 12.30pm and we were seated 5th. I was initially upset that we were not sat on the right hand window overlooking the city, even though there was a space, however we were seated on the front window only one table in so we ended up getting a two sided view and when the other tables left we got to take photos out the other window.

We had champagne and they catered for gluten free. The beef course was to die for. They provided extra sandwiches, a red rose and special cake for our anniversary and the courses just kept coming. On departure you can take everything left with you and you get a box of chocolates too. Don't be embarrassed to ask to take something with you. Do not eat or drink hours before coming here. I looked six months pregnant as we left and we didn't eat until 5am the next day!

Hubby took high tea in his stride and tried 8 different teas and made me laugh no end.... I normally go to high tea with my girlfriends. He said he was fairly impressed for his first time. Our waiter was Moroccan and super fun. In terms of dress standards I believe I overdressed us. Hubby was in long pants and business shirt. I was in dress, jacket and heels. All men had long pants but some had short sleeved shirts and the ladies seemed very overdressed or underdressed, none of us seemed to find a happy medium. The aircon was cold on entry so i was happy for my jacket but as the session wore on and the teas came I warmed up. There was a second side to the restaurant which appeared to have the lunch diners. There was a lady playing piano but everyone was quiet!

We stayed until 4pm and no one moved us on. It was a Monday. We were so full with all the food and different teas that we needed a break between each course! We were not rushed in anyway and the staff were lovely, did not hover but where there when needed.

The whole hotel is over the top, but we made it fun and were really happy with our visit! The decor in the SkyBar entry is the same as the LAX terminal restaurant if you have ever been there. Nothing makes sense in the decoration, but really you're there to look out the window so it doesn't matter. We enjoyed watching the helicopters come and go.

On exit, instead of a taxi, we were given a white Lexus that was a private car but same price and the driver Saboot was amazing. We then used him and his brother for the whole time in Dubai as our drivers so a lucky meeting really.

The views from the sky view bar is incredible. Worth the price of the meal alone. The food offered a excellent assortment of appetizers, entrees and desserts.

“Incredible experience from start to finish”
Reviewed June 6, 2013

The afternoon tea at the Skyview Bar of the Burj al Arab will please even well-seasoned travelers. From start to finish, the Burj al Arab earns its seven stars. The arrival and check-in are efficient and you can easily spend 30 minutes just admiring the hotel before tea. The "tea" is like a meal in itself. We couldn't finish everything and they have the widest array of beverages included that I have ever seen. The views are awe-inspiring and the service top-notch. We were given boxes of chocolate to take home as well which was a welcome surprise. Worth every cent spent on it.
