“good hotel but a little slow service”
Reviewed March 21, 2013

golden sands is a very good hotel, everything is fine but they have a little slow service. Also good food for vegetarians. Very satisfied with the stay and would definitely opt for it in the future too.

My husband and I stayed at golden sands 3 for 6 nights in Feb 2013 just after the Dubai shopping festival ended. This hotel was ok, nothing great, and not too bad. I found the location a little inconvenient because we had to take a taxi to the metro station. There wasnt too much within walking distance. Of the 6 days, one day the staff didnt clean our room even though we had put out the sign at 10am and returned only after 5pm. That was unprofessional. I had to go down the hallway and help myself to fresh towels from the housekeeping cart. Would I stay there again? Probably not. I'd rather stay in the heart of the city near Dubai Mall and nearer to the metro. I must say that the staff was very friendly and the food was good. I got a good rate, approx $92 for a studio per night with taxes/transfers/and breakfast.

Room Tip: We were in 111 away from the lifts and pool, so it was nice and quiet.

I booked this place during a trade show in Dubai in February. Location is fine, not too far from Meena Bazaar. There are some small convenience stores nearby. This is not a very pedestrian friendly city, so if you want to use the metro, expect to walk a good 15 to 20 minutes. Taxis are available, but you'll have to call for one.

Generally speaking the hotel itself is fine. I booked on Orbitz and had the good sense to confirm my reservation before hand. The problem is that this place has 9 or 10 different buildings, and each one has their own check-in desk. So if you don't know which building you're staying in ahead of time, expect to encounter a lot of frustration as you walk around the area. The check-in clerks WILL NOT HELP YOU if you show up at the wrong building. I saw this happen to two people while I waited. One was a family of five from France, who were told to walk three blocks with all their luggage and little kids to the correct hotel. And of course, their reservation didn't show which building they were supposed to be in either. Sad!

I stayed in Golden Sands 3. The check in process was slow and painful. First they couldn't find the reservation, despite me giving them their own confirmation number. Finally after finding it, it took the guy another ten minutes to complete check in. Then they wanted a 400 Dirham deposit. If you give your credit card, you will not be refunded for 2 to 3 weeks until after checking out. Best to give a cash deposit (lucky for me I had it), and make sure you get a receipt from them detailing you gave them cash. You'll need it to get the refund on check out. Very bureaucratic system, just like India!

Service was very harried, and truth be told they were VERY busy. The room itself was decent--a junior suite with a small sitting area, nice big LCD TV, and two single beds for little old me! When I called downstairs saying I had asked for king or queen, they offered to send up housekeeping to push the two beds together! Oh well, you can't always win.

The room was clean, the amenities decent. There was a small balcony facing the inner courtyard, where you can see into everyone else's room! Who comes up with these designs?

The hotel is old, and the bathroom definitely did reflect that. Not very big, and not very nice. Especially the shower. And no hot water after around 9 am I noticed.

Though the website had shown there is only wifi in the lobby and wired in the room, I discovered otherwise. There was no wired internet in my room, only WIFI. That suited me just fine, but it was rather slow.

There is a nice small kitchenette in the room and a fridge. Nice touch to have a small oven and stove. But get this--no plates, pans, utensils, etc. Nothing! Only a teacup for the free coffee and tea provided (no spoon for the tea), and two glasses. You get the feeling this is a place really designed for long stay guests.

They did have a pool which I didn't use, but it looked fine. I didn't use room service or have breakfast at the hotel, so can't comment.

All in all, the stay was fine for my purposes. Four nights went by pretty smoothly. The rate wasn't too bad. Including a coupon I used for orbitz, ended up paying about $110 per night. If I could get the same rate or better, I would use it again.

Word of warning: this is not a luxury hotel. This is a basic, no frills 3 star apartment type place that is best suited for those who can look after themselves.

For those who want to see Dubai on a dime, this place is a gem! We stayed at Golden Sands#3 in Bur Dubai, is one of the several Golden Sands hotel apartments located near Burjuman metro station. It is very convenient to walk to supermarket Spinney's is 10 min walk, and metro station for green and red lines.
We booked this hotel through Booking.com, which offered quite a deal approx. 120$ for family suite with 2 bathrooms, which worked for me and my husband and my parents. The hotel is recently updated, and is in relatively good shape. It is kept clean and neat by male housekeepers. The bathrooms though need an upgrade. However, its is bearable, unless you want to spend your money on the lodging instead of enjoying Dubai.
Golden Sands has a pool, sauna and gym, nice conditions and a restaurant. The pool is early and often crowded, so you can use the rooftop pool of adjacent Golden Sands 5, which is a bit obsolete, but clean and more secluded. The breakfast is offered downstairs.
We came to Golden Sands expecting quality of 3 star hotel. After reading some reviews we prepared for ghetto location and cockroaches. But from the very start, we were warmly greeted and settled in.They even serve cold drinks while you are checking in(in 90 degrees heat nice touch)The staff is extremely helpful and made our stay special. The customer service was quiet commendable. They also can assist with safari, city tours, and how to spend your vacation. They have a free ride to the Jumeirah beach every day at 9.40 am up to 4.00 pm, but you have to sign for it several days ahead.
Overall, for the money we paid it was quite a gem.It has a great location, close to the Creek and to Downtown, popular spot for taxi.

Stayed in this hotel - studio apartments (No.3) for 4 days in the first week of March 2013. Very satisfied with the stay and would definitely opt for it in the future too. Good location. The rooms are good. If one is looking for a relaxed luxury stay in the hotel, then not a choice. But for a vacation, where most of the time will be spent outdoors, quite ideal at a decent price. The rooms are clean and well maintained. The room has a small kitchenette with basic utensils, washing maching, refregirator, bed, sofa, TV, table and a balcony. Internet connection was available in the room..but for wifi, we have to go to the lounge or the restaurant area in 1st floor. Staff were helpful and co-operative. A/c was not working properly one night and it was immediately attended to. They were also ready to shift us to another room, if it din't work.

Good indian restaurants withing 15 mins walking distance. Vegetarian restaurants are also there. Metro stations are also at walking distance..but take a taxi for minimum fare, if going as family or with kid.

Overall, had a nice stay and would prefer to go again.

Very friendly reception by the staff when we arrived. The room we had booked was a 2 bedroom apartment, the only thing we were missing when we came in was missing a few towels, when we pointed this out, they came up with more promptly. Rooms were cleaned daily without complaint. Free wireless internet with acceptable speed to be able to talk over Skype and stream TV programs.
Pool areas are small and you have to be there early to get sun chairs.
We used their booking service to go to the beach and desert safaris, beach trip should be to book as early as possible if you want to use their bus, often fully booked.
The restaurant has great food for the whole family, the price is quite acceptable.
It is 2 km to the nearest Metro station, which takes you to the Dubai Mall and Emirates Mall.
Approximately 5 km to the gold and spice markets.

Can recommend this hotel as a family hotel

Well positioned apartments for the tourist. We stayed 4 nights early January so walking to Bar Dubai and the old Souks was not a problem as the weather was quite pleasant. It is only about a 10 - 15 minute walk from the Al Fahidi Metro Station on the Green line. On the walk to this station there are some restaurants and also a modern and large supermarket. Very handy with good selection. The walk from Golden Sands to the Al Fahidi Old Fort and Museum through the streets is very interesting and recommended. You see much more by walking. The hotel room was quite spacious and fully self contained with a small kitchen. What more do you need on a holiday? The staff were friendly and the room service staff very friendly and helpful. Also plenty of city taxis around when required. Would stay there again.
