“Great Hotel”
Reviewed November 18, 2013

Stayed here for 2 weeks and I can only say what a great hotel, rooms were large and spacious
very clean, lovely sea views and large TV in room with BBC channels for English viewing.
The pool area was large and lots of space and sun beds, pool staff looked after our every needs
with water all day. Breakfast was very good with a good selection of food a choice of 4 restaurants for dinner and what a great choice we had, could not find a fault with the dinner selection from fish, beef, lamb, duck, steak, chicken every night. The waiters were very friendly
and helpful nothing was too much trouble. Will be going back again thats for sure.

Room Tip: All rooms are good, but avoid ground floor unless you have children.

A pity, but this hotel is far from having a five star service.
It is in the small things that one perceives quality and care.
We checked-in and we asked reception to make sure the bell-boy was not forgetting the flower bunch we brought with us. Instead we found the bell-boy standing in front of our room waiting to collect our luggage. How come, we had just checked-in. Bad information!
In the room there is no tea/coffee facilities and no iron board, no welcome amenities, no good-night amenities, etc. Everything that one would commonly find in a five star hotel room, at the O&O has to be asked for.
House-keeping is very bad. We had to ask three times to have a flower vase and tea facilities,
and only hours later, late in the night, we finally managed to get it.
The worse thing is wi-fi. Unbelievable but this hotel offers no free wi-fi. Not even in the lobby.
All other hotels their same category and location do easily provide this service, in the lobby AND in the rooms.
When we talked to the front-desk manager to complain about house-keeping, wi-fi, etc., he just said we’d be surprised to know how many hotels don’t provide this service. Guess him and their management should pay Westin, Ritz Carlton, Fairmont Palm, etc. a visit and see what they offer and how they treat their guests!!
By the way the front-desk manager said he’d take care about the flower vase and tea facilities, but he did not, as we had to ask house-keeping again and, as said, after our third call in hours, we got it.
The next day we received some fruits. In a cheap glass vase and served in a totally careless way as you may see from the picture.
Breakfast at the Olive restaurant was pretty average. So was the dinner buffet. Nothing to write home about. Again, not comparable at all with any other five star hotel!
The beach though is excellent. Good sun-chairs, chilled water served during the day, or the chance to order from the refreshment cart that goes around.
All in all we say that for those rates they could provide a much better service, and definitely care more about their guests! Very disappointing.

This was our third visit having previously found this was an outstanding hotel, but on this November visit we were disappointed as the service has deteriorated due we think to the staff having been cut back.

Examples are; Generally having breakfast in the Olives restaurant it took such a long time for our tea to be brought to our table that my Wife had finished her breakfast and twice we sent it back because it was tepid. The birds on the Balcony were a great nuisance trying to eat the food on the tables when people returned to the buffet to get more food because there were so few waiters there.

The area around the adults only pool was not cleaned overnight so rubbish was still there the following morning. The bedrooms were also not cleaned properly and towels not fully replaced.

We tried to book a table in a specific area in the beach restaurant and were told this was not allowed, even though on a previous evening we were told we could not have an unoccupied table as it had been booked! We reported this to senior managrment who then arranged for us to have a table in the area we wanted.

Very disappointing, we shall not be returning there.

Save you money. Dont book a Club room-a waste of money. A few tasteless canopies at night time ....and some cheap white wine.In fact find another hotel. We checked into this hotel after 5 blissful nights at another Dubai hotel. The contrast was unbelievable
Areas of this hotel are tired. That was the opinion of others I met there and not just myself. Other comments were "5 star prices with 3 star service". The service in Olives restaurant was dreadful. Floor was dirty , staff disinterested and slow. Fifteen minutes to get a coffee, and then she got the order wrong. The terrace is inundated with agressive birds swooping down on your table. One waitress dropped a piece of paper from her pocket whilst escorting us to our table....and kicked it under the table. One hour later it was still there.

The circular pool bar staff are poorly trained and it shows. That bar is desperatly in need of a refurb and some serious staff training. I complained to the manager......and he agreed!

My list of complaints is endless.

Room Tip: Choose one elsewhere

The Royal Mirage is a great place to stay for a few days in the sun. It is freindly and efficient with two good restaurants in addition to the buffet. The seafood restaurant was a little disappointing as the fish at one meal was slightly dry. The Celebrities restaurant did not disappoint and we dined there 3 times.
Room was very good but could do with an explanation of how to work the various room lights.

Room Tip: Chose a club room

We just spent a week at The Palace Royal Mirage. Everything was first class and the service was excellent. The room was very large and the bathroom was very nice. We ate at Celebrities, Tagine, Beach Bar and Grill, Eauzone and 101 at One and Only The Palm and went over on the complimentary boat. All restaurants were very good but our favourite was Celebrities, the a la carte breakfast in Celebrities was very good. All the hotel staff were so friendly and helpful especially Charlene. Charlene arranged for us to go to At.mosphere Lounge up the top of Burj Khalifa, the worlds tallest building. There was a minimum spend per person, but we had a table by the window so had a brilliant view. The entrance was in Armani Hotel which was worth a visit, we went for a drink first in the Armani Lounge and saw the dancing fountains outside at The Dubai Mall every half hour.

I stayed at the Royal Mirage a number of years ago -- so long ago, it was in the "BT" Era (Before TripAdvisor). So when I was in Dubai on this trip I dragged a customer along and we sat on the beach and enjoyed a cocktail or two. It was a delightful experience, sitting between the pool and the sea. We watched the sun set; we chatted with the staff; we eavesdropped on a VERY romantic couple who definitely should have been having their conversation in their hotel room rather than sitting at the pool; we took selfies and emailed them to our friends; all in all a delightful (if slightly expensive but hey, definitely worth it) evening.
